Self-education of nurses in IC after the abolition of the legal obligation to prove it

The thesis deals with the self-education of critical care nurses after the end of the legal obligation to document it. The aim of this thesis was to find out whether critical care nurses are self-educating and whether they know where to look for educational events. The thesis consists of three parts: theoretical, practical and creating a website. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the concept of general nursing and learning, lifelong learning, education in selected hospitals, education in selected foreign countries and nursing organizations/web-based educational resources. The practical part consists of a quantitative research survey, which took place mainly in two large teaching hospitals in Prague. The investigation was conducted in the form of a questionnaire that I created for the needs of the diploma thesis. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether general nurses in intensive care are actively self-educating and whether they know where they can find educational resources/events themselves. The output of the thesis was the creation of a website where an effort was made to consolidate the websites already available into one place to provide a simplified and targeted search for educational events and resources. Technique of oral hygiene in intensive care

This thesis deals with the procedures and equipment used in the performance of oral hygiene in patients hospitalized in intensive care. The aim was to find out how oral hygiene is currently performed in intensive care beds at the University Hospital Královské Vinohrady and what aids and solutions are used by non-medical health staff. On the basis of the information obtained, a uniform procedure was subsequently developed that could serve as a template for the creation of a new nursing standard that would serve as a guide for nurses e bedside of patient how to perform oral hygiene, unify the procedures of individual departments and thus contribute to improving the quality of nursing care in this particular area. At the same time, the procedure was implemented in bedside practice immediately after the data collection from this research, so that it could be assessed in a subsequent pilot study for the impact of updated and specified techniques in patients with the same sample characteristics. Indeed, the follow-up study will assess the impact of the oral hygiene technique on the microbial colonisation of the airways. Oral hygiene care for ventilated patients. What is the influence on microbiome of respiratory tract?

This diploma thesis deals with the influence of oral hygiene care on the microbial colonization of respiratory tract of the patients with secured airways. The aim was to find out whether the microbial population of the respiratory tract will change after the introduction of a new procedure in oral hygiene care. The assessment was based on the examination of aspirates taken from hospitalized patients in intensive care. In these patients, the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia was also assessed in connection with oral hygiene. Research has shown that there has been a reduction in the occurrence of potentially pathogenic microorganisms in the respiratory tract following the introduction of the new procedure. There was no reduction in the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Experiences of SARS-CoV-2 patients hospitalised in an ICU

The present thesis focuses on the experiences of patients hospitalised with the SARS-CoV-2 disease within the intensive care settings. It examines the influence of the hygiene- epidemiological regime and protective medical equipment on the patients'experience of hospitalisation and their effects on their psychological well-being. The theoretical part summarises the basic information about the virus causing the disease, the causative agents, clinical manifestations, and treatment methods. It indicates the specifics of the intensive care unit, preventive measures and hygiene and epidemiological principles. In addition, it states the general principles of care for patients with Covid-19 and discusses the disease in intensive care. Finally, the effects of hospitalisation on the psychological well-being of the patients and the post covid syndrome are discussed. The practical part of the thesis maps the patients' preception and experience of hospitalisation, the hygiene and epidemiological regime, and the protective equipment of the staff. Nurses' knowledge of elimination methods in intensive care

This diploma theses resolves continuous elimination methods. The goal was to find out nurses' knowledge needed to operate elimination machines in intensive care and availability of practical material that would make these operations easier. Evaluation was build up on questionare survey which included 90 respondents and the results show that the nurses' knowledge are not adequate enough even though materials are present for the majority of the nurses. In conclusion a proposal of recommendation is made for practice in which better and more superior materials should be established in which my thesis should be used as a foundation. Awareness of family members of patients treated in intensive care

The diploma thesis deals with the theme awareness of family members of patients hospitalized in intensive care. The aim is to find out how they understand the information provided by the doctor, whether all questions are answered, how they understand intensive care and whether they can describe the intensive care unit. If, from their point of view, they do not receive comprehensive information, we examine whether they can find information that interests them somewhere else. The information obtained will be used for further processing and creation of a web portal, which would be available to families of hospitalized patients. The patient's transition to home mechanical ventilation

The presented quantitative diploma thesis deals with the issue of the home mechanical ventilation (HMV) in the Czech Republic. It outlines its history, describes the most common diagnoses of clients using the HMV, and gives an overview of departments of long-term and follow-up intensive care. The thesis summarizes the course of transition from the hospital to homecare and comprehensively describes government allowance available to the families. Finally, institutions which were most commonly named by the queried departments of follow-up intensive care as intermediaries of the HMV are briefly identified. In the empirical part, the thesis aims to find out, using a questionnaire survey, how the aforementioned issues play out in practice, how the transition to domestic environment takes place, who helps the families, or whether the caregivers use all the financial assistance available to them. The thesis proposes five hypotheses, out of which two met the pre-established criteria. The first confirmed hypothesis stated that there are organisations which help the patients with the transition to the HMV and that the families are satisfied with the speed and the gradually increasing difficulty of the transition. The efficiency of adaptation process

The diploma thesis is focused on efficiency of adaptation proces of nurses at intensive care. The point of this work was to find out the most problematical areas of adaptation process, analyze if it fulfills its purpose in the time given. These points gave us the main target, which was to find out if there are any areas of adaptation proces that could be made more efficiently. To be able to get deep into the topic, the research was made by the form of qualitative research through semi-structured interview. Nurses, who completed or are completing adaptation proces were interviewed on the topic given, and we also examined the topic from the sight of the mentoring nurses. The research was realised on Clinics of anestesiology and resuscitation at FNKV and kardiosurgery resuscitatic department of FN Pilsen. The analysis of the results showed that there are several areas of the adaptation proces that could be made more efficiently. For example, it could be more time providedfor a sufficient initial training of nurses, elaboration of educative materials including specifics of the given department or periodical consultations between the newcomming nurse and her mentor.
