About the world of novels by Josef Škvorecký

Content of this work is characterization of Josef Škvorecký`s life, his bibliography, significant writings and first of all characterization the main components of his writings with accent on captive of his literary evolution. The work is structured to separate chapters, which talks about author`s life, chronologically bibliography, analysis of the most significant novels and characterization of author`s literary evolution. The chapter of Škvorecký`s novels is divided into free subchapters, where are discribed the most significant novels divided by creative period with target to established typical signs of each creative period. The chapter about himself describes author`s life from his own perspective and perspective of his readers. The conclusion summarizes knowledge about author`s writings.

Publicism of the last period of the totalitarism (Rudé právo in 1989)

Publicism of the last period of the totalitarism (Rudé právo in 1989) The theme of the thesis is based on political journalism of the last period of the totalitarism in Czechoslovakia in 1989. The leading communist daily, Rudé právo 1989 is used as the main source of the analysis. The work is divided into two parts. The first part is related to the short historical review of the communism era in Czechoslovakia since the so called Victorious February in 1948 till 1988, when the first anti-government demonstrations occurred. The second part is focused on the critical historical moments in 1989 ("Palach Week" in January 1989, petition "A Few Sentences" in July 1989, anti-government protests in August and October 1989, the collapse of the communism regime in November caused by the Velvet Revolution, the unanimous vote by the Federal Assembly). Meanwhile there is a following practical part. Its main purpose is interpretation and analysis of the articles in order to show examples of the ideological influence of the language.

Verbal aspect in Czech-German and German-Czech dictionaries

The present bachelor thesis is focused on dealing with verbal aspect (perfectiveness and imperfectiveness) in contemporary Czech-German and German-Czech dictionaries. This category, which occurs in the Czech language, unlike in German, is on the boundary of grammar and semantics. The theoretical part of this thesis summarizes the general concept of this verbal aspect and the ways of expressing it in German. The extent to which dictionaries deal with this category depends on the target groups of dictionary users. After the introduction to the problem of bilingual dictionaries, three currently used Czech-German and German-Czech dictionaries were chosen for the detail analysis. The present research of verbal aspect as it is tackled in these dictionaries, the Czech verbal perfectiveness and imperfectiveness, and their counterparts in German dictionary entries may lead to the improvement in the usage of correct forms. The German user needs information both on relevant aspectual forms (perfective and imperfective) and on semantic differences between them.

Time of Prague spring 1968 reflected in the journal of Literární listy

The time of the Prague Springof 1968 drawn out in the journal Literární listy This work looks into the profile of the journal Literární listy during the period of the Prague Spring of 1968; my exposition is preceded by a reflection of the political and socio- cultural atmosphere of these times. In the introduction, I give a brief overview of what was happening on the political and cultural scene, since the early loosening of internal relations in the late 1950's as well as through out the 1960's in the former Czechoslovakia (a so-called "melting period"), and an overall evaluation of the situation from a cultural point of view (including the relationship between writers and authorities, the emancipation of cultural journals from the official party and state policies, the development at the 4th congress of Svaz československých spisovatelů (Czechoslovak Writers' Union) and the voiced criticism of the regime. The following pages recall the main points of developments during the months of the Prague Spring of 1968. Colloquial Czech in Translation (the comparison of the original text and translation of the novel Night Work written by Jáchym Topol into Polish)

The thesis deals with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements into the Polish language using the comparison of the novel "Night Work" by Jáchym Topol and its Polish translation. The theoretical part involves a summary of the development of the Czech and Polish languages from the perspective of a standard language variety origin and its norm. Moreover, it focuses on the changing stratification of both languages with a special attention to the present stratification. The description of colloquial Czech and its current position as a Czech language variety is also included. Furthermore the thesis deals with the issue of equivalence, adequacy and translatability from the theoretical and practical point of view. The analysis of the original and translated novel extracts follows. This part concentrates on the possibilities of substituting Czech colloquial words in the Polish text. Animal Symbols in Czech Phraseology in Comparison with Vietnamese Phraseology

The topic of this thesis is the comparison of symbols associated with occurrence of denomination of selected animal species in Czech and Vietnamese phraseology and idiomatics. In this respect it is an attempt to submit general characteristics of these symbols. The thesis consists of two main sections. The first section concentrates on parables, second one on proverbs. In both sections we characterized selected phraseological units from formal and semantic points of view and, if possible, we identified coincidences and similarities in both languages. Main Czech sources on which is this thesis based were two volumes of Slovník české frazeologie a idiomatiky (1. díl - Přirovnání a 4. díl - Výrazy větné) - Dictionary of Czech phraseology and idiomatic (1st part - Parables and 4th part - Sentential expressions), from Vietnamese point of view the main source was Từ điển Thành ngữ và tục ngữ Việt Nam - Dictionary of Vietnamese phraseology / idiomatics and proverbs.

Linguodidactic presentation of the aspect for arabian speakers

This work deals with the presentation of the Czech aspect of the Arabic speakers. The aspect is one of the most problematic areas of Czech grammar, which requires a special attention by the practitioners. The work seeks to create a method suitable for the teaching of Arabic speakers through their original Arabic tongue as a language that very clearly indicates the aspect. The current dissertation work also discusses the shortcomings that challenges both czech grammar and textbook of Czech for foreigners and the recommendations contained in dissertation attempts to avoid such shortcomings.
