Johannes Urzidil - A Contribution to the Life and Work especially focused the view of the theatre in the Germany-speaking milieu in Prague

Annotation: The aim of this thesis is to draw attention to the personality of Prague German literature, Johannes Urzidil, to his life and work, in the light of authors life philosophy, that connects his prosaic, lyrical and journalistic texts. The thesis points out the important events that influenced the author's way of life and above all his intellectual world, the source of his work. From the extensive Urzidil's work, the part dealing with the theater issues is described. For this purpose, three articles published in the press within the period 1920 - 1940 are chosen. They are dedicated to the issue of the Prague German Theater, illustrated the work of its prominent personalities, cover the theater critiques of the mentioned seasons and reflect the cultural significance of theater for the public. Thematically, the articles belong to the framework of the historical efforts of the German people living in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown (and since 1918 in Czechoslovakia), to build a German National Theatre in Prague. This framework is based on the text of Jitka Ludvová "Nationaltheater und Minderheitentheater. Ideen und Theaterpraxis." Oskar Wiener and his creation for children

The subject of this thesis is the German writer and Prague citizen Oskar Wiener, one of the city's lesser known authors from the turn of the 20th century. Special attention is paid to the author's writing for children, works that play a significant role is his overall creative output. The first chapter formulates the subject matter and establishes the goals of the thesis. The second chapter takes a look at the life of Oskar Wiener through the use of archive material, the recollections of friends and autobiographical elements in Wiener's work. The third chapter discusses German literature in Prague at the turn of the 20th century, including the historical background and a presentation of the literary groups of this period, especially the Jung Prag group and its literary tendencies. The fourth chapter is devoted to the Prague neo-romantics, a group to which Oskar Wiener belonged. The fifth chapter provides a brief overview of Wiener's overall work, with an emphasis on his activities as collector and agent. The sixth and seventh chapters then take a closer look at Wiener's writing for children: chapter six introduces his specific works and chapter seven places them in the general context of modern pedagogy. "Ich - Der Augenzeuge": Analysis of one of the later works by Ernst Weiß

This paper deals with Ernst Weiß method and functioning of story telling in one of his most important pieces, the novel "Ich - Der Augenzeuge" (1963). The introduction is focused on relevant general information about author's biography and his work, with emphasis on some essential parts of the book content. The paper is based on findings of important specialists in Ernst Weiß work, who represent the current state of Weiß research. The interpretation of selected crucial passages helps the text understanding. Also the analysis of events, which are forming the protagonists, and the reflection of historical context in this novel are emphasized. This analysis and illustration of Weiß' way of story telling, motives and methods of attitude contribute to approaching this novel as one of the most important humanistic, antimilitaristic and anti-fascist pieces of the 20th century.
Immigrant voices: Non-native authors in the contemporary Austrian literature on the example of Radek Knapp and Dimitré Dinev

SUMMARY: This thesis deals with the phenomenon of German migrant literature in the context of contemporary Austrian literature. The theoretical part is about general questions of the migrant literature in German-speaking countries - from the search of a suitable term to the dispute about its justification - and further there is a description of the specific situation in Austria. The second and the third part are dedicated to the presentation of two exponents of this sort of literature, the Pole Radek Knapp and the Bulgarian Dimitré Dinev. Based on the analysis of their two most important novels, Herrn Kukas Empfehlungen and Engelszungen, the presence of themes and motifs referring to their origin or migrant experience was confirmed. Nevertheless, as the comparison with their complete works shows, these themes and motifs are definitely not the exclusive ones.

The Bachelor's Thesis "Lexical austriacisms In Thomas Bernhard's novel HolzJiillen" deals with the analysis of austracisms in a belletristic novel. It focuses on classifying according to language areas of the Austrian vocabulary. It also concentrates upon differences In denotation of standard German and specific Austrian dictionaries. It proofs that the usage of the austriacisnls in the novel IS specific, often comprehensible only on the basis of a context. The novel itself has a very complex syntactic structure. The austriacisms are often used in ironic tone which is typical of Bernhard's style of writing. 3

Synopsis University: Univerzita Karlova v Praze, Pedagogicka fakulta, Katedra gennanistiky Title: Anglicisms In The Youth Language A Diachronic Research Based On Two Selected Numbers of The Youth Magazine Bravo Author: Lenka Kotvova Supervisor: PhDr. Dalibor Zeman, Ph.D. Pages: 42 The thesis deals with the issue of anglicisms in the Gennan youth language and is based on two numbers of the Gennan magazine Bravo. In the theoretical part the individual linguistic (resp. sociolinguistic) tenns are explained. Further, a brief, retrospective overview of the influences on Gennan is presented and into focus comes the in these days widest spread one: the influence of English. Contrastive reactions to this issue of both professional and lay public are introduced and attention is also drawn to the related danger of international homonyms. The practical part lies in own research, which primarily observes the frequency of anglicisms present in the youth language within the last 15 years. As the functional basis two numbers of the teenage magazine Bravo, 2/1993 and 39/2008, are chosen. Not only comes into question the quantitative point; the qualities of individual anglicisms are also examined.
