History and catalog of the historical library of the parish of St. Vojtěch in Prague - New Town
PIVOŇKOVÁ, Alena
The aim of this thesis was to create a catalog of manuscripts and prints of the parish library near the church of St. Vojtěch in Prague - New Town. The work is divided into several chapters. These individual chapters are briefly introduced in the introduction. The introduction is followed by a chapter dealing with the literature and sources used. The next two subsequent chapters both deal with the history, firstly of the originator of the book fund, i.e. the history of the St. Vojtěch parish (it is supplemented by an overview of the parish priests and chaplains) and then of the library itself. The fifth chapter then explains how the catalog was created and informs about the total number of manuscripts and prints in the library. The entire sixth chapter is devoted to the analysis of the book collection and is divided into 10 subsections according to the aspects of this analysis. The first examines the time of creation of the parish books, the second examines the content (theme) of the books, the third examines the language used, the fourth contains listed places of publication and printing, the fifth and sixth include information about the printers and publishers of all prints, the seventh mentions the illustrations contained in the parish books, and the eighth examines the bindings of the books. The conclusion tries to evaluate the set goals. A list of sources and literature, and finally a catalog of the parish library are also attached. The thesis also contains photographs (specifically chapters 6.5, 6.6, 6.7 and 6.8).

Illustrations in the print Pán rady (1505).
Polanská, Magda ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Voit, Petr (referee)
Diploma thesis with the topic Illustration cycle in print called Pán rady (1505) deals with issue of illustration in old printed books, but also in wider perspective with text, its history and its mediation via manuscripts and print. Art-historical background of the author is combined with informations from other disciplines like library science, history of literature and history. As woodcuts are known as an import from Strassbourg, formal analysis is focused on finding paralels in local illustrated books production. Surprisingly one of the models used for woodcuts is copperplate by Dutch engraver known as Master FVB. There are several specifics when iconography of woodcuts is concerned. In the first place are all the allegorical figures depicted as male - despite the fact that in most other artworks is Fortune and other figures traditionally shown as female. Other interesting aspect is lack of female element on the illustrations at all, with one exception where depicted woman is most likely prostitute. This can be explained as an awareness of the strict morals utraquistic townsmen in Prague. There are quite a few parallels with contemporary tendencies in this sort of moralising literature and its influence on art. Illustrations from Pán rady are preceding popular protestant imaginary warning from...

A Study on the Techniques and Methods in German-Czech Translations at the Time of the Renaissance and the Reformation
Zemenová, Markéta ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Veselá, Gabriela (referee)
The thesis is a contribution to the field of Translation Studies focusing on Translation History. It is concerned with the techniques and methods used in German-Czech translations at the time of the Renaissance and the Reformation. Three selected German texts form the 16th and early 17th century and their first translations into Czech were analysed in this work in order to revise and further extend the current research findings on translations of the period and to provide an overview of the main problems connected with investigation of old prints. Based on our original analysis we conclude that the translation techniques and methods used in the time of the Renaissance and the Reformation were very diverse and often mutually contradictory. No evidence of consistent translation strategies or any universal translation norm was found within the scope of our analysis.
