Social work with clients addicted to gambling

This bachelor thesis deals with social work with clients addicted to gambling. The thesis is theoretical and divided into three chapters. The first chapter deals with the definition of addiction, common features of non-substance and substance addiction and symptoms of addictive behavior. The second chapter describes gambling as well as the associated problem of gambling addiction, in other words pathological gambling. It also deals with the types of gambling, online gambling, the effects of gambling addiction and the regulation of gambling in the Czech Republic. The third chapter focuses on social work with clients addicted to gambling. It describes social counseling which aims to stabilize the addict's social conditions, through brief intervention and debt counseling. Another important subchapter is working with the family and strengthening the motivation of addicts.
Knowledge of addictology in students of general medicine of 1st Faculty of Medicine Charles University

Background: The study of general medicine aims to equip a future medical practitioner with the knowledge and experience they will need in their future practice. The physician should master the methods of Orientational diagnostics and Brief intervention in the field of substance abuse and addiction. A marginal part of the time is donated to this topic as part of undergraduate studies. Aim: The purpose of this study is to find out the level of certainty of the students of the 1st Faculty of Medicine in their knowledge regarding Orientational diagnostics, Brief intervention and to find out the student's attitude toward addictology. The partial goal is to find out what the students need to gain confidence in providing care to addiction patients. Methods: The research was conducted using an anonymous survey. The survey was shared on the social network Facebook in six individual private groups of medical students. The resulting data were statistically processed using Microsoft Office Excel and Microsoft Word. Improvement of Patients´Health Literacy by Means of Short Intervention Method

This rigorosum thesis deals with the topic of increasing health literacy of patients in practice using the method of brief interventions. Brief interventions have been practically applied for the purposes of nicotine withdrawal, limitation of alcohol consumption, improvement of dietary habits, support of physical activity and influenza vaccination. It is a current method developed and supported by WHO as part of primary and secondary prevention of chronic, non-infectious as well as some infectious diseases. The goal of brief interventions is to increase the health literacy with the purpose of motivating the patients to be accountable for their own health, and thus reduce the incidence of diseases associated with an unhealthy lifestyle in population.
