TITLE: The Origins of the Cold War AUTHOR: Aneta Kostková DEPARTMENT: Institute of Political Science SUPERVISOR: Mgr. Martin Štefek, Ph.D. Abstract In this bachelor thesis we will deal with the topic of the Cold War. We will analyze the causes and assumptions of its origin. We will look for its roots already in the pre-war era and then especially during the Second World War. We will focus on the analysis of diplomatic negotiations between the political actors of the Soviet Union, the United States of America and the United Kingdom, in particular we will focus on the mutual relations between the individual leaders. In this regard, we will analyze the narratives of the Big Three during the Potsdam Conference and the Yalta Conference. We will follow how the two superpowers of the Soviet Union and the United States of America have been profiled, and in particular how the relationship between the two countries has developed and how they have arrived at a mutually antagonistic stance. We will also look at documents that were discussed and adopted after World War II. We will focus on the issue of the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine. We will conceive the roots of the Cold War as a historical work. Key words: Origins, Cold war, international relations, diplomacy
