Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and the process of uncovering

Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is a method gaining popularity that presents potential in the treatment of mental health problems, primarily depressive and anxiety disorders. In the Czech Republic, it is currently available in the form of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. The process of uncovering is a psychotherapeutic mechanism, operating on the principle of awareness of the inner contents of the mind, which can contribute to positive psychotherapeutic change. The literature review part of the thesis offers an overview of the theory of psychedelics, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and the process of uncovering. The empirical part of the thesis aimed to map the subjective experiences of clients who have undergone ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, focusing on the process of uncovering experienced during treatment. The sample consisted of six women, aged 29 to 34 years, with depressive and anxiety symptoms. The method of data collection was semi-structured interview, qualitative data were processed using thematic analysis. The results showed that ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can facilitate the process of uncovering, they also outlined possible forms of uncovering, and showed that uncovering was experienced by respondents primarily as a sense of self and self-integrity.
