Risks Associated with the Dietary Supplements Use.

Consultant: PharmDr. Jitka Pokladníková, Ph.D. Title of Thesis: Risks Associated with the Dietary Supplements Use The worldwide increase of dietary supplements use, the way they are marketed and the limited information about safety of these products open the space to make new studies and thus to increase the safety of dietary supplements use in general public. In this dissertation, four individual topics related to the dietary supplements use were addressed: the safety of the use of additives in dietary supplements, allergy-like reactions to herbal products in children, the quality of information on the Internet relating to dietary supplements, the dietary supplements use by patients in the pre-operative period. The results of individual studies carried out in the framework of the dissertation showed potential risks associated with the dietary supplements use. Besides undesirable side effects of dietary supplements and interactions, potential side effects have been reported with some additives, especially if the patient is receiving the additive simultaneously in several dietary supplements or with food....

It has not been examined in the Czech Republic for persons who are interested in healthy diet, as a specific group of people yet. Objectives: Primary goal of the thesis was to analyse lifestyle behaviors in persons who are interested in healthy diet and compare the data obtained with healthy eating and healthy lifestyle recommendations. Secondary goal of the thesis was to analyse quality of life, life satisfaction, mental hygiene and some aspects of physical health of persons who are interested in healthy diet. Methods: Data for this prospective cross-sectional questionnaire survey were obtained in the period from September 2012 to June 2015. Respondents from the general public attended free lectures held in the education cycle, focusing on healthy lifestyle in the project Ebstyle on Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University. GEMMOTHERAPY AND ITS USE IN PRACTISE Student: Škodová Adriana Tutor: PharmDr. Jitka Pokladníková, Ph.D. Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic Introduction: Gemmotherapy or budding medicine is an herbal healing method, whose roots go back to the Middle Ages and folk healing. It uses germ-shaped parts of plants (especially buds) for the production of liqueur glycerin macerates, which are proven to contain larger quantities of some important substances with healing properties than adult parts of plants. Objectives: The aim of this work was to summarize basic information about gemmotherapy from available literature; to summarize the description of the traditional use of selected plants and gemmotherapeutics prepared therefrom; to provide a summary of studies based on evidence-based literature, especially with regard to content and confirmatory medicinal properties, adverse effects, drug interactions and contraindications. Another purpose of the theoretical part was the mapping of trends in counterfeiting of medicinal products on the domestic and world scale and to compile a summary of the instruments used to combat counterfeiting of medicinal products. The aim of the practical part was the analysis of the reports of falsified medicinal products and to compare the obtained results with hypotheses based on theoretical knowledge. Methods: The data was obtained by analyzing the reports of counterfeit medicinal products published by State Institute for Drug Control in the period from 2nd March 2006 to 14th November 2017. Altogether, 115 reports from the Czech Republic and from abroad were analyzed. The theoretical part describes issues connected with health and health promotion. The next part is focused on alternative approaches to health, describing human as a whole being and relationship being, complementary and alternative medicine, and on describing traditional Chinese medicine. The research part is describing initial conditions for the implementation of the questionnaire survey and describes information resulting from this survey divided into several different aspects (city size, age category of respondents, length of their experience etc.). In the discussion part, the theoretical part is summarized that the bio-psycho-social approach is developed by the psychosomatic medicine.
