Women Characters in the Selected Stories of Josef Škvorecký
Zamora, Juan ; Špirit, Michael (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
The most frequent - but not the only - way of telling Josef Škvorecký's prose is with the first grammatical person of the singular from the point of view of a male figure, for example that of one of Danny Smiřický. But female characters also play an important role in the story. The aim of this thesis is to study the way in which female figures are shaped in some Škvorecký's prose works. Therefore, we want to study the order in which we learn information about them, what passages are devoted to their characteristics or what other data in the text is associated with them. We rely on the literature on the theory of the character (e. g. Hausenblas and Macurová) and on literature about the author (e. g. Kosková, Trenský, Solecki). The build-up of a plot in Josef Skvorecky's tetralogy about lieutenant Boruvka
Zamora, Juan ; Špirit, Michael (advisor) ; Bílek, Petr (referee)
The scope of the thesis is the description of plot in the open tetralogy of Josef Škvorecký about the lieutenant Josef Borůvka which was published between 1966-1981. We examine the extent to which the rules characteristic for detective stories are complied with in the series and how passages devoted to private life of main characters relate to the investigation of the cases. Theoretically we draw from professional literature about the detective genre (especially Škvorecký, Sýkora, Todorov) and the literature about the author (Kosková, Trenský). We describe contexts of the tetralogy with other proses of Josef Škvorecký as well.
