93 Resumé Issues of Criminal Responsibility and Prosecution of the Juveniles This dissertation focuses on the Act No. 218/2003 Coll., Act on Juveniles' Responsibility for Illegal Acts and on Juvenile Justice and on Amendment of Various Acts, as amended (Act on Juvenile Justice), thanks to which the Czech Republic returned to the idea of an independent juvenile judicial system existing between 1931 and 1950. By the adoption of the Act on Juvenile Justice criminal law took a considerable position within the scope of child and juvenile legal protection. The dissertation aims at showing differences between general criminal law regulations and special regulations related to the juveniles. It further draws attention to shortcomings of the aforesaid act caused either by its interpretation or legislative drawbacks. Likewise, it comprises an outline of solutions to some of the shortcomings or proposals for possible modifications of the act in the future. The dissertation is divided into six chapters. The first chapter contains historical development of juvenile criminal law legislation as of foundation of the Czechoslovakia till the adoption of the Act on Juvenile Justice.
