Thermal waters of the western Bohemia and energetic potential of the Vridlo spring

This thesis summarizes the basic general knowledge of geology and geological evolution of western Bohemia. But above all, deals with the occurrence of thermal water, its origin and development. Describes in detail the local springs on the earth's surface, water yield and temperatures. More characteristic is given the hottest spring in the Czech Republic and that is the Vřídlo in Karlovy Vary. This thesis also deals with the energy potential thermal waters and their possible applications. The conclusion includes a total reflection on the issue thermal water and their use in the future.
Radioactive medicinal springs in the Skalná - Bad Brambach area

Radiohydrochemical exploration took place in east part of the "smrčinský" pluton between "Skalná-Plesná-Bad Brambach in years 2016-2018. The main aim of the exploration was location and thorough research of possible occurrence of waters with radioactive concretation higher than 1500 Bq/l. That is a value for radioactive mineral waters given by the "lázeňským" law number 164/2001 Sb. Most important area is Plesná-south where was discovered several springs with values exceeding 5000 Bq/l. Eminent spring is called "Břetislav-Radonka" and lies one kilometre southwest from the train station Plesná-Šneky with an activity of about 12.5 kBq / l 222 Rn and a flow rate of about 2.5 l / min. It is the most active surface discharge of radon mineral water in the Czech Republic Another significant source area is north of Skalna - north. These springs were discovered almost 60 years ago, Dr. Marie Zukriegelová. The main source of this area was named after its discoverer - the "Marie Z" spring with an activity of 5800 Bq / l 222 Rn.Further the research focused on historical radioactive conduit which were used to supply village Skalné with water. Underground waters and springs at Jeseník Spa: New hydrogeochemical data

This thesis deals with the areal survey of water resources in the area of Priessnitz baths, to search for natural medicinal sources and advanced data collection for evaluation radiohydrogeochemical situation of the area. The area of interest is situated in the Hrubý Jeseník mountains. Hydrogeologically it is a hard rock, which consists mainly of metamorphic rocks of the Bohemian Massif, the Moravian-Silesian region, presented as the methamorfic envelope of the desen group of Silenics. Altogether, 83 objects were recorded and many of them were visited repeatedly. Physical parameters (temperature, pH, Eh, conductivity), activity 222Rn and flow rate were measured. In addition, the chemical composition and tritium contents were determined on selected sources. Conductometry, thermometry, and probes for peloids were conducted. There was no source of water (or peloid) that would reach the criteria of a natural healing source (according to the Czech spa law). However, the overall hydrogeological and hydrochemical situation is quite complicated. Both the genesis of water and its chemical composition is highly heterogeneous and influenced by the heterogenical geological structure. The springs of the radioactive medicinal groundwaters in the Chrastava - Bogatynia area

A radiogeochemical exploration in the area of Chrastava - Bogatynia belonging into lugic region was conducted in the years 2012 - 2013. This exploration's objective was to search for and investigate radioactive water manifestations with radioactivity concentration reaching minimal value of 1500 Bq/l 222Rn. This boundary is set in the spa law no. 164/2001 Sb. as a minimal radioactivity concentration for radioactive mineral water. In this area, 30 water manifestations were discovered meeting the boudary of >1500 Bq/l 222Rn. The most significant cluster is located in Albrechtice by Frýdlant. Close to Kančí vrch (Boar Hill) 12 radioactive water springs were discovered. In the town of Albrechtice, a discovery of dissolved salts- rich radioactive mineral water was made, concerning springs Soumar and Matka. The most mineralized spring Soumar contains more than 1 g/l of dissolved salts (hydrochemical type Na-Ca-Cl water with total mineralization up to 1,5 g/l) combined with it's 222Rn activity surpassing 1500 Bq/l. Another significant cluster is located near the town of Nová Ves by Chrastava, where the most active source of the whole area, Mikulášský pramen (Mikulash Spring), with activity up to 2821 Bq/l 222Rn, was found. Reaction of granite with termal water and changes in permeability

The purpose of this thesis is to characterize the reaction of water with granite by describing the main factors, which control the weathering of granite. The effect of temperature on the dissolution of minerals turns to be the most significant. While the dissolution of feldspars occurs at lower temperatures, more resistant minerals such as quartz, biotite or muscovite are dissolved as well at higher temperatures. The presence of dissolved CO2 affects dissolution as well as precipitation of minerals. The research done in this thesis also reveals that flowing of water in granite is limited only to joints and fractures, which can be filled by the clay minerals originated from the weathering of feldspars. In some cases, an opposite phenomenon may occur when highly permeable channels start to grow on faults. Mineralogical analysis of the insoluble residue obtained by dissolving aragonite sinter from spring Vřídlo in Karlovy Vary was performed. Abundance of quartz in, feldspar, mica, clay minerals, oxides and hydroxides of iron and to a lesser extent, baryte, magnetite and other minerals were identified by scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD). Springs of the radioactive mineral waters on Tanvald granite

In the years 2014-2015 a radiohydrogeochemical survey was carried out in the Tanvald granite body. Tanvald granite is a two-mica granite body located on the southern edge of the Krkonoše-Jizera Pluton, in the Lusatian part of the Saxony and Thuringian zone of the Variscan orogenic belt. The aim of the survey was to find radioactive water, the 222 Rn volume activity of which exceeds 1500 Bq/l. Such water is - under the Act no. 164/2001 Coll. - considered as radioactive mineral water. The result was a found of 20 water sources meeting this condition and many other sources approaching this value. In terms of the findings, the most important area is Dlouhý Most, where 8 of the radioactive water resources exceeding 1500 Bq/l were found. The most important of these is probably the source TGR/11 with the 222 Rn volume activity 2449 Bq/l. A cluster of water sources with a slightly higher conductivity (exceeding 300 µS/cm) appears in the Dlouhý Most area. Chemical analysis of the most important of them (TG1/15) showed that it is water of the Na-Ca-Cl type, probably contaminated by a run-off from the motorway, which is salted in winter. Springs of the radioactive medicinal water in the Lázně Libverda - Świeradów-Zdrój area

The main radionuclide causing high water radiation is 222 Rn with half-life 3.82 days. Concentrations of radon in radioactive mineral water in the Krkonoše-Jizera Crystalline Complex are very high and do not correspond with the concentration of uranium in the source rocks. These springs probably well up near the uranium mineralisation. Search for radioactive mineral water started in 2005 in Orlice- Sněžník Dome built by orthogneisses, which was the first promising area for such research. The research continued to the areas of Jánské Lázně and Horní Malá Úpa built by the Krkonoše orthogneisses in the next few years. In the last two years research was conducted in Lázně Libverda. Until then there were only a few known springs with radioactive mineral water. Lázně Libverda-Świeradów-Zdrój area is located in the Krkonoše-Jizera Crystalline Complex built by Cambrian/Ordovician orthogneisses and Variscan granite pluton. Jizera orthogneisses and the contact of these two objects were considered to be very promising in terms of finding springs of the radioactive medicinal water. Another criterion for a successful exploration is also an abnormal tectonic deformation of the zone.
