Speech development in children with Down syndrome supported by alternative communication methods

Bachelor's thesis "Speech development in children with Down syndrome supported by alternative communication methods" researches speech development in children with Down syndrome between two and five years of age and states the reasons why is speech development in these children almost always problematic. Based on example of good practice of using one of the alternative communication methods, namely "Znak do řeči (eng. Sign in speech)", the thesis tries to outline the reasons why are manual signs and alternative forms of communication that use them, suitable methods for communication and speech development in children with Down syndrome. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on specific periods of speech development in children with this syndrome, next on alternative communication and methods that use manual signs. The practical part of the thesis describes an example of experience with personal assistance, working with an alternative form of communication, and speech development in a girl with Down syndrome. The dichotomic view on man in the chronic stage of the aphasia

The topic of this thesis is the life of people with aphasia, mainly in the chronic stage and the life of their partners. The introduction of the theoretical section of the thesis deals with the definitions of health and disease with emphasis on the medical, psychological and sociological perspectives. The theoretical section is based on the. wider concept of chronic disease. This thesis focuses on the quality of life of people with chronic aphasia that reflects many areas of everyday life. The emphasis is, first of all, put on family environment and friends. The practical section presents research focused on a two-sided view of the same disorder. How this disorder is perceived by a person with chronic aphasia and by his or her partner. The outcome of this thesis is the evaluation of the answers observed during the recorded discussions in each research area. Conclusions should provide a reflection on the life of the patients with chronic aphasia and their partners in all spheres of their lives.

An Analysis of Speech Problems in Persons with Parkinson?s Disease

The thesis deals with the diagnosis of impaired communication ability of patients suffering from Parkinson's disease. The theoretical part surveys the up to now knowledge of Parkinson's disease, speech problems connected with Parkinson's disease and specific possibilities of logopaedic diagnosis. In the practical part the speech of people suffering from Parkinson's disease is assessed. Dysarthric speech impairments are assessed in relation to the length of Parkinson's disease. Test 3F (used for diagnosing dysarthric patients) is used to examine a group of people suffering from Parkinson's disease. The people are divided into three groups according to the length of their disease.
