Czechs and their satisfaction with environmental conditions

In May 2009 CVVM cocerned on chosen environmental issues. People were more satisfied with state of environment at their place of residence (70 %) than in Czech republic in general (58 %). Respondents were most satisfied with accessability of free nature (84 % "satisfied"), quality of drinking water (78 %) and cleanness of nature (72 %). On the other hand respondents were dissatisfied with impact of density of traffic on the environment (67 % "dissatisfied").
Public opinion on the consumption of addictive substances

In May 2009 CVVM investigated on public attitudes towards drugs. The most tolerated was coffee (96 % said that at least irregular consumption is acceptable) followed by alcohol (93 %) and tobacco (72 %). Marihuana was marked as an acceptable just by 18 % of respondents followed by ecstasy (6 %), pervitin (3 %) and heroin (2 %). The majority of respondents claimed not just production and distribution of drugs but also consumption to be prosecuted (83 % for consumption of hard drugs and 65 % for soft drugs).
Satisfaction with conditions of living at the place of residence

Within April survey CVVM investigated how were informants satisfied with living conditions at their place of residence. More than two thirds of respondents were satisfied, 22 % wasn‘t satisfied nor dissatisfied and only 8 % were dissatisfied. Respondents were also asked to evaluate particular conditions influencing the standard of Living at their place of residence. People were most satisfied with installation of gas, electricity, water and with sewerage (93 % „certainly + rather satisfied”) and 88 % were satisfied with disposal of municipal waste. These two were followed by relations among neighbours (77 %), stores and services (76 %), cleanness of the streets (73 %) and the environment (72 %). The worst evaluated aspects were the level of wages (67 % „certainly + rather dissatisfied”), job opportunities (69 %), building up of new flats (51 %) and the quality of roads (38 %).
The evaluation of some social conditions in the CR

In April survey CVVM was also concerned on evaluation of some social conditions of life in the Czech Republic. Majority was satisfied with an access to education (77 % „very + fairly good“) and access to health care (65 %). With the rest of chosen areas most of informants were dissatisfied: chance to work or to be employed (26 % „very + fairly good“), chance to get a flat (23 %), financial conditions to start a family (22 %), living contitions of disabled people (21 %), social security for the old people (19 %).
The impacts of EU membership on the Czech Republic

In April 2009 CVVM investigated on the membership of the Czech republic in the European union. Informants were asked to evaluate positive and negative efects of membership and the impact of membership on chosen areas of public life. 76 % agreed that EU membership helped Czechs to work, live and study in other EU countries. 75 % said that membership increased the level of bureaucracy in Czech republic. 64 % agreed that membership brought a lot of money from EU funds to the country. Economical migration of czech skilled workers to another EU countries was agreed by 62 % of informants. On the other hand only 28 % claimed that EU membership is a danger for Czech culture.
What about Czechs and toleration?

In March 2009 CVVM used some questions focused on public tolerance to some groups of people. Czechs were shown a list of 14 groups of people and they had to say, whether they would not want these people as their neighbours. Negative attitude to neighbourhood of four groups was expressed by Czech people. These groups consist of drug addicts, 85 % of Czech would not want them to be their neighbours. Four fifths of Czech citizens (79 %) would not like to live close to people with criminal past and 78 % of Czechs would not want alcoholics in their neighbourhood. People (53 %) also expressed their negative attitude to living close to mentally ill people, on the other side the negative attitude was not too convincing. In connection with tolerance this survey also dealt with question how is the Czech society tolerant to individual groups of people. Czechs think that Czech public is mainly intolerant to people with criminal past (61 %), drug addicts (59 %).
Who is a foreigner?

As a part of March survey made by CVVM there were some questions about public attitudes to foreigners. Majorty (61 %) claimed that foreigners living in Czech republic should become conformed to czech cultural habits as much as possible. Another 35 % of informants said that foreigners should adapt to czech cultural habits just in some aspects. And 3 % said that foreigners should be allowed to live according to their habits.

In March survey CVVM investigated Czech public's views with regard to foreigners who live in the long term or permanently in Czech Republic. 78 % of Czechs think that incomers should have had the right to stay here in the long term under some conditions, 7 % would support this right with no restricting conditions and 11 % said that foreigners should not have any right to stay in the long term in Czech Republic.
When should politicians abdicate?

In March 2007 CVVM SOÚ AV ČR provided a survey, what affairs in public and political life are according to Czechs compatible with holding office and which ones should lead to resignation of a politician. Most Czech people take radical attitude to politicians who are sentenced or charged of crime (this is in both cases – when a crime relates to holding office and when a crime is not in relation to holding office as well) – agreement with resignation was almost unanimous. On the other hand Czechs are most benevolent concerning criminality of a relative of a politician (34 % agree with abdication), infidelity (35 % for resignation) and finally commission of penal offence (46 % agree).
The influence of the public on politics

In february 2009 CVVM posed a few questions on how can people influence decision making and how they should be able to influence so. Majority was willing to leave government's decisions to politicians (59 %) but on the other hand the informants claimed to have a right to decide about an important legal acts in a plebiscite (65 %).
