Variation of the Sniffin' Sticks Olfactory Detection Threshold Test in Czech Adolescents

Currently, the Sniffin sticks test is widely used to test the sense of smell, both clinically and in research, which, in addition to the olfactory detection thresholds test, also includes discrimination and identification subtests. Previous research has suggested that detection thresholds can fluctuate significantly over a short period of time. Getting a picture of the practical applicability of this knowledge is complicated by the fact that the results of detection threshold measurements are conditioned by the way we approach threshold testing and the fact that these researches were not conducted in younger age groups. For the stated reasons, we decided to test a group of 155 (78 males) Czech adolescents aged 15-16 during 3 measurements at two-week intervals. We chose this age group, due to the assumption, that pubertal changes have ended, which we expect could significantly distort variability. We compared detection thresholds within 2 groups and genders according to whether they performed above or below the normosmia threshold. Our research showed that the expected difference between the performance of women and men did not appear in our research sample. Embodiment in social cognition and theory of mind

The bachelor thesis deals with the concept of embodied cognition, which understands perception and action as a functional and indivisible whole. Instead of needing mental representations, it offers a dynamic and interactive model of circular exchange with the environment. In a number of examples, it describes how it is possible that the interaction and behavior of an organism may not depend on complex calculations that, according to a traditional model, are placed in the brain but how the body itself and its adaptation can be sufficient for these processes. In this manner, it turns to work on social cognition and her current broader interpretation framework how we create beliefs about the states of other people, that is, the theory of mind. Based on the simulation theory, it suggests research that aims to determine whether lower-level processes such as empathy will be constructive in solving more complex tasks of one of the theory of mind tests - the Faux pas test.

Unemployment in Eastern Slovakia in the perspective of community work

During the years after the conversion in 1989 and the establishement of separate Slovak state the highest rate of longterm unemployement among the states of European Union occured in the locality of Eastern Slovakia. In current times after the economic crisis few states outrun Slovakia at the moment but taken from a more longterm perspective and taking into account the duration of unemployement Slovakia is still on the front ranks. In the European context this locality is also specific by high rates of marginalized Roma population that lives in an unsatisfactory conditions and has a problematic access to education and work. The fact that in the region there are less job opportunities compared to western Slovakia and therefore chances of finding an adequate job are also limited for the rest of the population worsens the situation. The thesis will not only analyse the conditions of emergence of unemployement but will also focus on strategies of multiple possible solutions with the main emphasis on potential of community work and social firms. These toughts will reflect an unemployed person in her psycho-social context.
