Spirit, Kryštof ; Ottlová, Marta (advisor) ; Slavický, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis attempts to map both personal and professional life of Vaclav Emanuel Horak, a Czech composer of the 19th century. Based on contemporary sources, especially magazines, it is clear that he was one of the most popular and most often played composers of sacred music during his lifetime. Nowadays his compositions are almost not performed. The second part of the thesis lists Horak`s compositions. This overview was created with the help of specialized databases. The final analysis of two Horak`s requiem mass settings written at two different stages of his life and comapred to the same type of composition by W. A. Mozart aims to define the compositional style of V. E. Horak and put it in context of music development at the turn of the 18th and 19th century. Subsequently, the analysis should answer the question if Horak was a composer of Classicism or of the Romantic Era. Keywords: composer, organist, choirmaster, educator, classicism, romanticism, requiem, mass
