The chronotope of the road in the literary works Dead souls by N. V. Gogol and Moscow - Petushki by V. V. Erofeev

This bachelor thesis deals with a comparative analysis of two poems in prose, The Dead Souls (1842) by N. V. Gogol and Moscow - Petushki (1969) by V. V. Erofeev, in which the chronotope of the road is an important part of the construction of the sujet. The first part of the work is focused on the definition and meaning of the chronotope of the road in a literary work and its multifunctional formal and content properties. We chose the studies of the literary critic M. M. Bakhtin Forms of Time and of the Chronotope in the Novel (1937 - 1938) as the authoritative work in the field of methodology. The second part of the bachelor thesis focuses on the definition of the genre of poem in prose, the analysis of the motifs and themes used in the poem The Dead Souls. We will examine how the chronotope of the road affects the overall character of the work and what significance it plays in the contemporary depiction of Russia. In the third part, we will proceed similarly with Moscow - Petushki. The conclusion of the thesis is composed of the comparison and interpretation of formal, stylistic and motivic means that were used in the selected works.

The Change of the Paradigm of Literary Criticism: an Attempt at the Czech-Slovak Dialogue

The study presents a critical commentary on and partly a polemic with some topical publications of the members of the so-called Nitra Team who criticize structuralism and the technological approaches in literary criticism in general without taking into account the important evolutionary peripeteias of structuralism as such. The authors of the study defends the necessity of transcendence of scientific disciiplines, but also a permanent redefing of the borders of literary scholarship and the compactness of its methodology.

Contemporary Czech Slavonic Studies at the Crossroads

The author of the article describes the situation of the Czech Slavonic studies stressing the orientation on comparative and genre studies. He also mentions the impact of social sciences and the long tradition going back to the beginning of the 19th century which may become the basis of the "New Philology" analysed by contemporary American researchers.
