The project was led by the Department of Human Dimensions of Global Change, Global Change Research Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences, with support from the Czech-UNDP Trust Fund (CTF). This 6-month project worked closely with several key stakeholders in the Kyrgyz Republic including primarily: The National Statistical Committee (NSC), The State Agency for Environment Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The aims of the project were to build capacity for experimental ecosystem accounting (SEEA EEA) in the form of three stakeholder consultation workshops and continuous project collaboration with Kyrgyz partners and experts, mapping and mobilizing available data sources for SEEA EEA, and compiling pilot experimental ecosystem accounts for the Kyzyl Unkur leshoz in collaboration with project partners in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Methodology for assessment of urban ecosystem services in the Czech Republic
Frélichová, Jana ; Harmáčková, Veronika Zuzana ; Pártl, Adam ; Vačkář, David
The methodology was created in response to international and national commitments and strategies, which aim to preserve and improve the quality of ecosystems and ecosystem services in urban areas. The methodology provides a framework and procedures for evaluating the role of green infrastructure in cities have not yet been processed in the Czech Republic. Applying the concept of ecosystem services in the purely urban environment represents in the Czech Republic a unique and innovative approach that will contribute to more effective operations of local public policies, especially in urban planning, sustainable development of society and the environment. The methodology contributes to the implementation of the strategic commitments in the Biodiversity Strategy and Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Czech Republic.
Methodology for the assessment of environmental risk of ecosystem services provision
Pártl, Adam ; Loučková, Blanka ; Hák, T. ; Janoušková, S. ; Lorencová, Eliška ; Rejentová, L. ; Stein, Z. ; Vačkář, David
The proposed methodology is new in the context of the Czech Republic, and it is based on a number of foreign professional both scientific and applied studies that focus on risk assessment at different levels. Integrated assessment of environmental risks of ecosystem services has not yet been implemented m the Czech republic. Also the implementation process has not been developed, nor any methodology or any methodological guide. The methodology provides new and unique method for risk assessment of prov1s1on of ecosystem services and their vulnerability. Integrated method is based on the classical risk assessment and vulnerability to environmental hazards. This method has been verified within the EnviSec project Integrated assessment of the global change impacts on the environmental security of the Czech Republic (VG20122015091). The results of risk assessment, implemented according to this methodology, are already available at the National Geoportal INSPIRE and included into the map application of the mentioned project at the http://envisec.cenia.cz.
Estimating values of urban ecosystem services in Kladno
Frélichová, Jana ; Pártl, Adam ; Harmáčková, Veronika Zuzana ; Vačkář, David
The benefits provided by urban nature have a substantial capacity to enhance human well-being. We quantify these benefits in the city of Kladno through the concept of ecosystem services by combining a value transfer method with surveys on citizen satisfaction and ecosystem services recognition. The results provide biophysical values of carbon sequestration and run-off and reveal stronger perception of benefits and higher preferences among citizens of Kladno for recreational services. Therefore, recreation is more suitable as a flagship service to encourage public participation than are such expert indicators as tonnes of carbon sequestered and increased run-off.
Methodological framework for integrated assessment of ecosystem services in the Czech Republic
Vačkář, David ; Frélichová, Jana ; Lorencová, Eliška ; Pártl, Adam ; Harmáčková, Veronika Zuzana ; Loučková, Blanka
EU biodiversity strategy to 2020 requires Member States in 2014 to map and assess the state of ecosystems and their services in its national territory. At the same time, the economic value of these services should be assessed (Goal 2, Action 5, Improve knowledge of ecosystems and their services in the EU). In connection with this commitment we present methodology, which aims to provide a coherent conceptual framework and basic principles for the assessment and valuation of ecosystem services in the Czech Republic. The aim of the methodology is providing basic principles and procedures for assessing and monitoring the status of ecosystem services, especially with regard to the preparation and implementation of the national assessment of ecosystem services. The methodological framework for the assessment of ecosystem services in the Czech Republic supports the Ministry of the Environment as the basis for the development of strategies and policies in the field of biodiversity conservation, especially in relation to Section 79, para. 2 (a) of the Act no. 114/1992 Coll., On Nature and Landscape Conservation, as amended.
