Five Poems of Mary Stuart, Op.135 by Robert Schumann Mourečková, Eliška ; VOTAVOVÁ, Yvona (advisor) ; MELNIK, Natalija (referee) The song cycle of five songs by Robert Schumann called Poems of Mary Stuart op. 135 is a neglected part of Czech singers´ repertoire, and it is even less involved in Czech music theoretical studies. This thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of the work by analyzing the songs in terms of harmonic, formal, semiotic and semantic structure, singing technique and interpretation, thereby promoting a revival of interest in the work itself. To aid a better understanding and classification cycle into the whole context is the work in the first part also provided with brief chapters about the life and work of Robert Schumann and the life of Mary Stuart.
