Microindentation assessment of climatic loading impacts on polymer sealants
Minster, Jiří ; Šašek, Petr
Sun light, especially the short-wave ultra-violet part of the sun spectrum, together with influence of moisture, are the most enlarged and the most effective sources of climatic damage of polymers. The effects of the both influences became stronger with enhanced temperature. Sun light on the one hand supports the forming of transverse chemical bonds between macromolecules and on the other hand results in their breakdown. This causes a strengthening or softening of polymers. The amount of changes and the dominant process depends on the radiation dose and on the influencing wave length. Every kind of chemical bond has its own critical wave length, which, with sufficient amount of energy, brings a reaction. Ageing, as a result of climatic loading, is therefore very closely connected with a structure of a real material. Microindentation is one of possible methods for assessing influences of a climatic loading on mechanical properties of polymers. Indentation test is checked by the history either of a power or an indent depth. The information about the hardness, Young modulus and viscoelastic properties of the investigated material can be received afterwards from measured data. The investigated materials were tested in their native standard form and also after four model types of physical-chemical ageing. Time-dependent properties of the sealants were assessed by the method of indentation creep. One hundred indentation creep tests were conducted for each sealant and type of ageing. A motivation for this work was a requirement to assess an influence of a climatic loading on the basic mechanical properties of sealants, used for a creation and a repair of mosaics.
Identification of material parameters of an orthotropic metal sheet
Vavřík, Daniel ; Fiala, Zdeněk ; Grediac, M. ; Jandejsek, Ivan ; Micka, Michal ; Minster, Jiří ; Pierron, F.
Identification of constitutive equation parameters of orthotropic specimens is a highly demanding task requiring a full field measurement of the strain fields. This measurement is done using a Digital Image Correlation technique. The material parameters are identified by employing the Finite Element Method Updating and the Virtual Field Method alternatively.
Geometrické faktory mikroindentace vazkopružných materiálů ostrým indentorem
Minster, Jiří ; Bláhová, O. ; Lukeš, J. ; Němeček, J.
Two approaches are applied to define short-term histories of creep compliance of a common epoxy composition loaded by a step load using microindentation data with the aim to compare the results with previously received data from standard macro measurements and to examine limitations of the method.
Hodnocení mechanických vlastností částicových polymerních kompozitů pomocí měření mikrotvrdosti
Minster, Jiří ; Berka, L. ; Hristova, J.
The applicability of Vickers microhardness measurements for mechanical assessment of heterogeneous polymer composites (filled polymer composites and polymer concretes) is discussed. Two types of composites based on epoxy and polyester matrices were investigated and two types of finely dispersed fillers were used with the 20% volumetric concentration of the individual fillers. The reinforcing effect of the hard filler and changes in the microhardness (i.e. in the yield strengths and moduli) in the neighbourhood of filler micrograins have been substantiated.
Měření vazkopružných vlastností termosetického materiálu pomocí nanoindentace
Lukeš, J. ; Němeček, J. ; Minster, Jiří
Mechanical properties of thermosetting material were studied by means of nanoindentation. A 3x3 matrix of indents was carried out in the load controlled regime. A 5-parameter combined Kelvin-Voigt-Maxwell creep model was successfully used to model a typical loading short-time behaviour of the material. Viscoelastic constants of the model have been found both for loading and dwell parts of the test.
Mechanické charakteristiky reonomních materiálů stanovené užitím mikro- a nanoindentace
Minster, Jiří ; Bláhová, O. ; Le Clere, R.
The paper deals with the disspersion of instrumented indentation measurements of rheonomic materials caused by state and properties of tested samples. It demonstrates the important influence of the temperature of the tested material, its viscoelastic behaviour, techology and microinhomogeneities on the microhardness and instantaneous elastic modulus values measured using the Nano Indenter XP and the microindenter MHT 10V.
Mikroindentace těles s vazkopružnou odezvou
Minster, Jiří ; Micka, Michal ; Bláhová, O.
This paper presents some results related to the introductory part of a project aimed at identifying the time-dependent mechanical characteristics of viscoelastic materials on the basis of microidentation data.
Compression test of a timber core - ANSYS model and moire interferometry experiment
Micka, Michal ; Minster, Jiří ; Václavík, P.
The paper presents results of modelling a non-standard compression test of timber, executed on small diameter cores in a special testing device. The test is semidestructive - friendly to historic timber. Numerical solution for elastic orthotropic material is correlated with results of moire-intererometry experimental data. The approach enables to define strengths and Young´s moduli of the assessed core.

Minster, Jiří ; Hristova, J. ; Krastev, R.
The objective of this paper is to contribute to knowledge of long-term mechanical behaviour of a class of epoxy resin composites that is significant for present-day and possible future applications in polymer composites.
