Novotný, Marek ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)

Both Laws comprise of three integral, namely; selective immigration, illegal immigration and the connection between immigration and national identity. Each of these issues is addressed in its own chapter. Each chapter starts with an explanation of particular concepts, like the combination of terms "immigration choisie" and "immigration subie", legal and illegal immigration and the concept of national identity. Next, the focus is on the continuity of the restrictive character of particular policies from the beginning of the 20th century which are influenced by economic (slow economic growth, high rate of unemployment), demographic (ageing of population) or political crises (activities of extreme right). The final part of each chapter considers the justness of the adopted proposals of the concerned laws. Jouve, Thomas David ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
The Diploma thesis "France and the Enlargement of the European Union to Central and Eastern European Countries from François Mitterrand to Nicolas Sarkozy: A continuation or renunciation of the French concept of European integration?" attempts to evaluate to what extent constituent elements of the French concept of European integration has been modified by the expansion to Central and Eastern European countries (CEE) in May, 2004 and January, 2007. The first part delves into the interests which the French commitment was based on in the European integration and the process which led France, in 1993, to accept, along with the other member states, the objective of the membership of the CEE countries. We then shift our focus to the period prior to the enlargement (1993-2004), the necessity for France to adapt itself, from an economic and European institution point of view, to the planned future configuration of the European Union as well as the internal debates (in Parliament) leading up to May, 2004, because they reveal the perceived stakes, for France, in this enlargement. Finally, the study of the strong French lines during the period commencing with the 2004 enlargement to the start of Nicolas Sarkozy's presidency, of the parliamentary debates and first balance sheets of the enlargement to the CEE countries...
The concept of laicité in Sarkozy's speech in Lateran in 2007
Ivaščenková, Kateřina ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
Bachelor thesis " The concept of laicité in Sarkozy's speech in Lateran from 2007" tackles the issue of laicité, specific secularism existing in France, raised by Sarkozy's speech in the Latran Church. In France, laicité is the result of a long and painful history marked by many conflicts between the Church and the State. In 1905, the law that established the separation of Church and State turned out to mark a fundamental shift in French society. Even though President Sarkozy mentions the deeprooted principle of laicité in France, he emphasizes the importance of religious virtues, in the public sphere. His new concept of 'laicité positive' marks a real rupture in politics from the beginning of the Vth Republic in France. Until now some French presidents accepted their title of Chanoine d'honneur de l'Eglise du Latran but without such a strong religious perspective as Sarkozy. Sarkozy's polemic made clear his preparedness to jeopardize the basic tenants of the separation of Church and State. Atheists in particular felt impugned as in this new political concept, believers are clearly considered to be superior. Likewise, many people reproached Sarkozy for having more respect for teachers with religious views. Some however pleased to see that new perspectives on secularity are possible in which religious faith...
French Immigration Policy under Nicolas Sarkozy: from Ministry of the Interior to Ministry of Immigration
Novotná, Ludmila ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
Diploma thesis "French Immigration Policy under Nicolas Sarkozy: from Ministry of the Interior to Ministry of Immigration" deals with French immigration policy during Nicolas Sarkozy's era at the Ministry of the Interior and beginning of his presidency. Sarkozy initiated a selective approach in immigration policy that distinguish whether immigrants belong to "chosen" immigration or "suffered" immigration. Even thought Sarkozy immigration policy can't be called revolution as he tended to do, it's rather evolution regarding the history of French immigration policy, he anyway made a little revolution in the institutional dimension by establishing Ministry of Immigration.
