Energy, economic and environmental analysis of balneotherapy
Miček, Denis ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to point out European Union´s goals such as low carbon economy, mainly future increasing the use of renewable sources as a potential source of energy. Slovak republic has due to its position in central Europe, rich in natural healing sources of water, which are considered as the most perspective sources of renewable energy in this country. The problem was solved as energy, economic and environmental analysis of Balneotherapy at Slovak Heath Spa Piešťany a.s. This analyzation was provided by real experimental measurement of temperature and flow rate and computational simulation of technological devices in opened natural healing water system. Experimentally measured data were afterwards use for elaboration conceptual design of new technological devices in order to increase efficiency of collection energy from potential renewable source of energy. The research shows that with help of new design technological devices connected to existing ones will be possible to cool down temperature of hot natural healing water from 67 °C to 21 °C, which decrease operation costs of Balneotherapy for more than 1 414 € per day. By Slovak republic entering to European Union it was necessary to accept global goals of low carbon economy. This diploma thesis provides an attention on potential energy in natural healing sources of water as renewable source of energy and helps Slovak Health Spa Piešťany to decrease amount of green-house gases released to atmosphere by efficient increasing the use of energy potential in natural healing source of water.

The Earth, our home planet is world unlike any other. The third planet from the sun is the only place in the known universe confirmed to host life. We, the humans always headed up to reach set up goals, innovate our technologies and way of living. The fact that, we had never been aware of is that this race to our bright and modern future is destroying our home. By this time, the global temperature arises by 1,9 oC since 1880, 427 gigatons of ice sheets were melted and there are 414 ppm of carbon dioxide particles in our atmosphere. As the trend is changing and we are above to think in green way of living, there is necessity to set up roadmaps and actions plans to stop, eventually decrease the damage which was already caused. The European union started to measure and provide actions plans to decrease the pollution and production of greenhouse gases since the year 1990 – which was set up as reference year for comparison to progress. This arrangement forced the countries to start evaluating the current statuses of their public and industrial sectors in terms of climate changes and provide climate plans for reducing the greenhouse gases. The most important part of climate action plans is to involve the renewable sources of energy into all public and industrial sectors and in this way start the green way of living. Therefore, the investigation and proper understanding of this problems must be the main focus of technical universities and scientific sectors. This dissertation thesis is the summit of 8 years studies and investigation in field of renewable sources of energy, mainly focused on geothermal energy which production in year 2002 was 0 GWh. The main goal is to experimentally analyze designed solutions, elaborated within master and bachelor thesis in real operation of Balneotherapy departments at Slovak Health Spa Piestany, Slovakia from energy, economic and environmental point of view, to set up energy, aqua management and fully understand the way of involvin

The energy potential of pools that use geothermal energy as a natural heating source of water

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to point out European Unions – low carbon economy, based on future using of renewable sources as a potential source of energy. Slovak republic is due to its position in central Europe rich in natural healing sources of water which are considered as the most perspective renewable source in this country. Chosen problem I decide to solve on specific part of Slovak Health Spa Piešťany, especially on Mirror pools located at Balnea Centre on Spa Island. According to measurements of temperature and discharge of natural healing source of water poured out of the Mirror pools obtained from Measurement and Regulation dispatching, I design the system which use this potential energy as a renewable source of heat. The research point out that obtaining energy from renewable sources such as natural healing sources of water are efficient and economical. With the help of designed system I declared the ability of using 98 % of this renewable source of energy, which reduced the costs of operation of the Slovak Health Spa by 216 € per one day. In spite of the fact that European Union accepted low carbon economy, by which countries have to reduce the amount of releasing Green-house gases over the 80 % , the results of this bachelor thesis allows us to reduce amount of gas used nowadays during the operation of Balneological departments and help us to fulfill this European Union idea.
