Effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation on the upper limb function of people with C4-C5 spinal cord injury
Halamová, Adéla ; Zvelebilová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Melicharová, Hana (referee)
Title: Effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation on the upper limb function of people with C4-C5 spinal cord injury The main objective: The aim of the work was to find out what effect the use of the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation method will have on the function, muscle volume and ranges of movements of the upper limb in people who are affected by a spinal cord lesion in the C4 and C5 region. Furthermore, the work dealt with the subjective feeling of the patients, whether the upper extremity improved after the therapy and if it was possible to involve it more in ADL activities. Methods: 5 probands took part in the study - all men with an average age of 41 years. A total of 3 measurements were performed for the study participants - approx. 2 months before the start of the intervention, before the start of the therapy and after the end. Values such as the volume of the arm muscles in contraction, the range of motion of abduction in the shoulder joint and flexion in the elbow joint were recorded. Another measured subject was the forearm endurance test. Participants also filled out the SCIM form before and after graduation. Probands practiced the method of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation of the 1st diagonal in addition to their regular therapy. They were also instructed...
The evaluation of functional sitting stability of paraplegics
Melicharová, Hana ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Vláčilová, Ivana (referee)
Title: The evaluation of functional sitting stability of paraplegics Objectives: The aim of this work is to evaluate the functional stability of paraplegics sitting through tests. Another objective is to determine what is the effect of fourteen days rehabilitation intervention on the sitting patients. Methods: Designed experiment was processed by the form of quantitative research. There were 10 pacients with spinal cord injuries, especially paraplegics included - 5 men and 5 women. The history was detected with the main emphasis on assessment ASIA score. Measurement of unsupported upright sitting was done thanks to the Plantograf V09. It records the current pressure distribution and movement of the center of pressure (COP). Functional T - shirt test was evaluated by using a stopwatch. Probands responded two questions about their current condition after rehabilitation after the output measuring. The therapist rating was included in the results. All data were further processed in Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Results: Measurements confirmed the reliability of both used tests. The t-shirt test can be used as an objective method of assessing functional stability of sitting. Test of unsupported upright sitting measured by Plantografu is also usable. It would be appropriate to set the measuring apparatus...
The Influence of upper-limb key muscles strength on self-sufficiency of tetraplegics
Dvořáková, Barbora ; Melicharová, Hana (advisor) ; Dáňová, Petra (referee)
This bachelor thesis concerns the influence of upper-limb key muscles strength on self-sufficiency of tetraplegics. The paper is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part contains observations on spinal cord damage as well as health consequences and complications of tetraplegia, which were subjected to closer scrutiny. Furthermore, the paper focuses on self-sufficiency of tetraplegics and on the influences which affect it. It offers a thorough description of the available research on the relationship between muscle strength and self-sufficiency. The practical part describes and compares case reports of two probands of the same motor level of tetraplegia and of a similar strength of upper-limb key muscles. Self- sufficiency of the probands is attested by SCIM and a detailed description of the strategy of transfer from a wheelchair to a bed and back. Keywords tetraplegia, self-sufficiency, muscle strength, SCIM, key muscles

Melicharová, Hana ; Maršáková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Jarošová, Hana (referee)
Title: Case study of physiotherapy treatment of a patient with Dermatomyositis. Aims: A summary of theoretical background, study of comprehensive rehabilitation methodology, proposal of therapy and evaluation of its effect in a patient with dermatomyositis. Methodology: Review of literature and case study was made during practice in Instute of Rheumatology in Prague from 9. 1. to 3. 2. 2012. It has two parts. Theoretical part sumarizes etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestation, therapy and use of physiotherapy in dermatomyositis. A case study is presented in the special part. Therapeutical approach was prescribed according to the medical history and physical examination and its effect was assessed using kinesiology analysis at the end. Results: In my patient back pain was decreased and the trunk stability was increased. Also the overall physical fitness increased as well as the stereotype of gait and endurance. Positive motivation and results of therapy the patient improved patient access to rehabilitation in general. Key words: dermatomyositis, polymyositis, inflammatory myopathy, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, muscle weakness.
