Kern, David ; Matějů, Martin (advisor) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee)
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a contemporary art movement often referred to as street art, post-graffiti or urban art. One of the components of this thesis, besides differentiation from the graffiti movement and an introduction of the most important artists and techniques, is an attempt to relate subcultural theories and Pierre Bourdieu's theory of social field to the movement. The primary sources used in this paper are Tristan Manco's Street Logos and Stencil Graffiti, Julia Reinecke's Street-Art, Christian Hundertmark's The Art of the Rebellion, The Subcultures Reader edited by Sarah Thornton and Ken Gelder, articles published in various magazines and newspapers and also interviews with the artists and their discussions, which have been published on the internet. The author of this paper was also successful in contacting two of the artists via email. Because of the nature of the subject, the methods applied in this paper are mostly a description and understanding of the source materials, profiles of the main artists and their techniques. In the theoretical part, the paper attempts to apply relevant sociological theories to describe the dynamics of the processes in the given subculture. First, the paper defines the term street art followed by a brief introduction of the graffiti movement to...
Aspects of absurd comic in avant-garde art (from symbolism to surrealism)
Únava z konzervativních společenských norem dává podnět revoltujícím jedincům a skupinám, aby vyjádřili svůj nesouhlas s dosavadním stylem života.
Kuks and baroque culture in Czech lands
Novobílský, Marek ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Matějů, Martin (referee)
The aim of this study is to outline and illustrate the link between the Kuksian manor and its founder, the great Czech baroque figure count Sporck and his Kuks, as a synthesis of events after the Thirty Year's War. I am convinced that this theme can be considered culturally-historical, as in the introductory chapter we are primarily going to cover the region's formation during the times of baroque Bohemia, the causes and mechanisms of its formation, subsequently we will describe the region's relationship to architecture, and finally we are going approach the spectacular grounds of Kuks itself. In the second part we will turn to count Sporck himself, particularly his background all the way towards his final establishment in Bohemia, where we are going to mention his notable credit to architecture and art, and eventually we will proceed to the issues of Bohemian settings of that time. Another big chapter will cover count Sporck's editorial activities, which were very ostentatious and presumptuous considering the fact that they took place during the difficult era full of censorships and prohibition. It can rightfully so be regarded as outstanding and, with only a few exceptions, unique in its own way. Towards the conclusion we will also outline the development of Sporck's theatrical society, the cooperation...

Soudková, Jitka ; Matějů, Martin (advisor) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee)
The object of our dissertation is to explore and specify the particular role that beer plays in the Czech culture. It also addresses its historical, social, cultural, and local development. We aimed to examine the function of beer and its cultural configuration; its setting and significance in cultural and social system; and its influence on behavior and experience of individuals. Furthermore, we have focused on both cultural;historical transformation of beer consumption on the Czech historical territory and drinking public spaces - pubs - as active cultural and social institutions. We regard pubs as places where pro;social and reciprocal behavior is accepted and active social interactions are expected to happen. Moreover, we are concerned with claim that roots of Czech national enlightenment lay in rural environment of village inns where Czech language was still widely spoken and preserved. In addition, we describe and assess a development of the brewing industry and related institutions; the status of so;called "barfly" as a particular social and cultural category. Last but not least we mention the gender problematic. In past, it was highly socially inadmissible for women to enter the pub without being accompanied by male counterpart. Therefore, we focused on this matter using heuristic and compilatory...
Sociocultural aspects of male and female role in a family
Buďánka - the place in Prague
Hradilková, Anežka ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Matějů, Martin (referee)
This text deals with the relationship of a human life and the place it is set. The first part treats the fact that an existencial connection is created between the person and the place he or she lives at. Not only do people influence the place of living, but the place itself consequently affects their lives. The quality which makes a place good for life is reflected in the spirit of the place - its genius loci. Genius loci consists of natural environment, structure of the place, its history, architecture and several other aspects which are described in the first part of the study. The second part deals with the city, with Prague in particular. Prague is a city with a strong genius loci. Environment, historical continuity and its inhabitabts with their needs have gave birth to a beautiful and diversed city. If we are able to realize the qualities which are important for the city, it is is desirable to conserve them. This kind of work concems the Prague Conservation. The third part deals with types of workers' habitation in course of the 19th and 20th century. In this context, Budanka, an urban pamatkova zone, is set. Budanka has been preserved as one of few workers' colonies in Prague and its existence has been menaced for a long time by policies of the city. This study maps its historical and cultural...
