Transsexuality is a term we are nowadays hearing more and more about however only a little minority of our society is aware of what transsexualism actually is and most do not realize it is not only a medical challenge but also social one. In this work I am firstly focusing on the fundamental information about transsexualism such as brief history, diagnostics, phases of the changing gender process, treatment, transsexuality and its legal and social aspects. Secondly, I am exploring the presence of transsexualism in public and its position both here and in the world. Finally, I am not forgetting to mention the role of nursing by psychotherapeutic help, support in adapting to the change, preparation for the surgery and following care.
