It is no secret that the proportional representation of women and men at managerial positions is unbalanced - not only in the Czech Republic. The reasons of the low proportion of women at these positions are many. The greatest obstacle is the traditional perception of the woman as the one who cares for the home and husband as the provider. Gender discrimination is thus quite common for companies when choosing new employees. Employers very often see a woman as a doubtful contribution due to her presumable maternity leave in future. If the woman already is a mother, the problem is even greater, as her frequent stays with sick children can be expected. Women who intend to attain a significant position in their jobs thus often postpone their motherhood and, after giving birth to a baby, do not make use of the full maternity leave period but return to work as soon as possible. Another big problem is the salary disparity, which accompanies women at practical every post; the woman is never paid equally high salary as man at the same position, although her qualifications and competencies are comparable.
