Georgia O'Keeffe and modern photograhy
Márföldyová, Lenka ; Rakušanová, Marie (advisor) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee)
Georgia O'Keeffe as the "First Lady of the American Modern" represents a significant milestone in the history of modern art, not only artistically but also personally. She was able to perceive reality in a distinctive way, and she didn`t hesitate to adapt current photographic trends into her work even though this medium was shortly considered an art form. The tendencies of a new photographic vision projected into large-scale canvases that capture studies of botanical objects or beautiful landscapes can be recognized in the works of photographers of the time such as Paul Strand, Imogen Cunningham, and Edward Weston. The aim of this work is to analyze the basic principles of modern American photography and to point out the influence this medium had on the creation of visual arts and on Georgia O'Keeffe's work. By putting author's paintings into a wider artistic context and identifying her inspirational resources, the thesis will provide the basis for a more thorough understanding of the purpouse O'Keeffe's original expressions followed.
