Suffix interrelations in the contemporary French language

The present BA thesis treats suffix interrelations in the contemporary French language focusing on deverbal nouns ending in -age and -ment. The theoretical part of the present work offers a brief historical survey of the derivational suffixes -age and -ment, the characteristics of the derivation of deverbal nouns using the two suffixes and takes a closer look at the interrelations of deverbal nouns ending in -age and -ment which share the same root. The practical part of the work pursues a research on the processive and resultative meaning of deverbal nouns ending in -age and -ment and sharing the same root in the contemporary French language using text corpora and a questionnaire for native speakers of French.
Linguistic devices of french in gastronomy and their use in didactics

The thesis focuses on French linguistic devices in the communicative sphere of gastronomy. It is based on the analysis of written texts, in particular of recipes, menu cards and newspaper and magazine articles that contain dietary advice. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part dwells on the typological determination of texts; it is further divided into three sections. Firstly it deals with kitchen recipes, followed by texts containing nutritional advice and, further on, menu cards. Every section contains an analysis of the type of text in terms of communicative situation, while observing pragmatical conditions of the text formation focused on the target recipient and also devices used to express the communicative function. The following section concerns the discourse and its organization, i.e. the scrutiny of specific stylistic methods used in the texts. The general analysis is concluded by the examination of linguistic devices of the texts, observing both the morfosyntactical and the lexical plan. Finally, a number of authentic texts is treated in the same way, with a discussion of the pragmatical plan, discursive plan and linguistic devices.
French (language) revolution: the republican calendar and the metric system

This thesis deals with the Republican Calendar and the metric system in France during the French Revolution, which is now seen primarily from the political point of view. The aim is to show the philosophical and ideological significance revealable when examining the historical development of these two systems. The work also consists of a personal research, which is devoted to use of the Republican Calendar and the System of Units and Measurements from the Revolution to the present.
Interculturalism in teaching French as a foreign language in Czech schools

Due to globalization new politico-economic relations between countries and their citizens have been developing. Interactions between nations and cultures has been intensified with the advent of multinational corporations, the opening of borders and the increase of student and workforce mobility. The above-mentioned phenomena create a new social climate which is reflected in the educational policies and in curricula. This paper looks into the intercultural education in teaching French as a foreign language at Czech schools. The theoretical part is grounded in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). This document written by the Council of Europe introduces the new concept of language teaching in European countries. It deals with questions such as how to learn languages, how to teach them and how to evaluate the process of teaching and learning. The overall objective of the CEFR is to train European citizens to operate in today's multicultural world. The CEFR enables the creation of common curricula and common methods of evaluation. Feminization of agentive nouns in present-day French

(in English) The major aim of the thesis is to investigate the different ways of making feminine equivalents to masculine names of professions, titles and ranks based on the data acquired from French and Canadian press archives. Furthermore, the study explores the history of certain frequent feminine forms to analyse the evolutionary changes and, in particular, presents the view of the French-speaking public on this matter. The data collected from the press were compared to the hypothesis and consequently the most occurring feminine forms were selected. In addition, the possible factors causing or preventing the feminization of names are examined in this study. The objective of the questionnaire is to analyse responses depending on the age, gender, and origin of the tested subjects, and to provide an overview of the current trends.

This thesis "Language means of propositions with appeal communicative function - recommendations, advices" is focused on analysis and on ordering of language means which are characteristic for the mentioned type of propositions. The propositions with the appeal communicative functions represent a broad spectrum of varied propositions. This thesis is concentrated on the written form, in concrete terms on texts which indicate what and how to do something. The special type of these texts is called directions and forms the main object of this work. This thesis is devided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part refers at first to the used published citations and explains the basic linguistic terms connected with the propositions with appeal communicative function. Afterwards, it gives the description of the language means that express the appeal and of the syntactical structures of these propositions. The communicative sphere of tourism - text typology, communicative strategies and linguistic means. Didactic use

The thesis focuses on a text analysis of a printed tourist guide and its potential possibilities of didactic use in French foreign language education. The thesis is divided into three sections. The first part deals with the submission of a printed tourist guide to the communicative sphere of tourism. It is first concerned with the sphere of tourism in general (to explain important terms such as the type of tourists or the tourist image). It then deals with the communicative sphere of tourism, its communicative situation and the written messages - tourist materials, which are divided between advertising and informational ones. Finally, it describes the printed tourist guide, its content and form, and presents a text typology based thematically. It shows stylistic procedures used in the text and their linguistic means, and also the tendencies a text has on text condensation and its coherence. Contrastive corpus analysis of French inchoative and ingressive constructions in comparison with their Czech equivalents

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the inchoative constructions in the French and Czech languages. These constructions have never been analysed on the parallel corpus. For this reason, the author has decided to examine this theme based on the data of the parallel corpus InterCorp. The first part represents a general introduction to the theme, particularly to the aspect theory in both languages. The second part is divided in to two chapters. The first one focuses on the constructions which expresses the inchoative aspect in French, particurarly periphrastic and light verbs. The second one covers inchoative constructions in Czech. The third research part of this thesis focuses on the detailed analysis of the selected verbs. The analysis is based on the criteria resulting from the theoretical part. In conclusion, there is a summary of the research as well as the possibilities for more researches dealing with this theme.
