Determinants of regional differentiation in fertility in the EU
Hašek, Oldřich ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kurkin, Roman (referee)
Determinants of regional differentiation in fertility in the EU Abstract Main goal of this thesis is to describe and analyze regional fertility determinants in the countries of the European Union. These determinants are based on many indicators which were chosen from a selected recherché of a professional literature. Descriptive statistic methods, correlation analysis, principal component analysis were used to achieve this goal and finally cluster analysis was used to integrate gathered data. Theoretical part of thesis is supported also with discussion from various literature sources about fertility and factor typology. In the analysis part the maps of clusters, tables which characterized strength and influence of different factors to these clusters were used; also appropriate comparative tables of descriptive statistics are used to support the analysis. From the thesis finding it can be seemed major regional impact specifications of each factor to a level of fertility and fulfilling specific geographical-cultural stereotypes in each regionalization. It is clear, that there is no universal value of an index with predetermined impact to a level of fertility, always is important the complex view of a specific area of an issue.
Determinants of Fertility and Regional Differentiation of Fertility in the Czech Republic after 1991
Kurkin, Roman
Determinants of Fertility and Regional Differentiation of Fertility in the Czech Republic after 1991 Abstract Dissertation mainly focuses on the factors that affect the level of fertility in the Czech Republic during the extensive changes in reproductive behavior since the 90s of the 20th century to the present. Pivotal analytical parts are conducted on two levels. On an individual level, the work uses data from the 2011 Population and Housing Census and models the number of children ever-born to a woman and the number of dependent children within the private household in relation to the determinants of fertility. Determinants of fertility of a partner are also included. The Total Fertility Rate at the aggregate district level is used as the dependent variable, which is determined by the factors of regional differentiation of the transversal fertility. The issue of determinants of fertility is complemented by general analysis of trends of transversal and cohort fertility rates, differential cohort fertility by various characteristics and the regional aspect. Methodological issues of population censuses, different indicators of fertility and approach to analysis at different scales are also widely discussed. Level of cohort fertility of women beyond the reproductive age was for the first time in the history...

Development of fertility in countries and regions of the European union after 1991
Kurkin, Roman ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Bartoňová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with the development of fertility in countries and regions of the European Union in the context of convergence and divergence trends. The goal is to analyze and evaluate the basic trends in international and regional differentiation of fertility by studying the literature and by my own analysis trying to explain the observed spatial differences and to identify problems in methodology and data collection. The European Union is for the purpose of analysis divided into western and eastern part in order to respond better to the hypothesis defined in the introductory chapter. First, the analysis of the regional differentiation of fertility rate is made. Variability in fertility at the regional level is consequently successfully explained by international differences which allow you to move the analysis at the state level. International differentiations of fertility rate are then explained by the different position of states in the process of second demographic transition. Despite the expectations, a clear trend towards convergence in fertility levels was not observed in the western part of the European Union and its spatial patterns remained stable. The eastern part experienced a significant decrease in the intensity of fertility which caused its convergence and overshadowed the ongoing changes...
