Prostor daily as a phenomenon of Czech photojournalism

The thesis Prostor daily as a phenomenon of Czech photojournalism focuses on the analysis of the journalistic photographs in two dailies established after 1989 - Prostor daily and Metropolitan/Metropolitní telegraf daily. The analytical part of the thesis consists of the quantitative content analysis and the qualitative analysis of the pictures; the thesis also contains interviews with seven former members of the photographic department of Prostor daily - Radovan Boček, Karel Cudlín, Jaromír Čejka, Jan Jindra, Zdeněk Lhoták, Roman Sejkot and Tomáš Štanzel. The aim of the thesis is to define the differences between Prostor daily and the other dailies at that time, why it was 'visually extraordinary' and why it became a phenomenon of Czech photojournalism.

The media image of Vacla Havel's death : the visual presentation of the phenomenon "leaving" in the czech printed media

The topic of this thesis is The media image of Václav Havel's death: The visual presentation of the phenomenon "leaving" in Czech print media. Thus, the thesis is focused on the photographs published in Czech daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny and Mladá fronta DNES and Czech weekly magazines Reflex, Respekt and Týden after the death of Václav Havel. The aim of the thesis is to analyse these pictures and to point out some specifics of the visual presentation of the event in the chosen periodicals. The theoretical part of the thesis contains chapters on the history of photography, the theory of photojournalism - including some of its genres, profiles of Václav Havel's personal photographers as well as Václav Havel himself or on the function of journalism in the case of a famous person's death. The practical part of the thesis includes both quantitative and visual analysis of the photographs which aim to find similarities and differences of the visual presentation of Havel's "leaving" in the analysed newspapers and magazines.
