Heraldic and prosopographical analysis of two armorials from the family archives of Vratislavs from Mitrovice. With edition

This thesis focuses on scientifical elaboration of two heraldical manuscripts from the Vratislavs from Mirtrovice family archives in the village Dírná (Soběslav region). According to the village name, the manuscrips are known as the Armorials from Dírná in the profesional literature. They were laid aside a little bit because their existence was known only to a relatively narrow circle of specialists as they were kept far away from the research centres. Both books had never been observed in ligt of authorship, datation or analysis of their content. We are speaking about two paper manuscripts, inventary No. 56, sign. I B 9 and No. 58 sign. I B 10. They comprise 984 and 1358 painted coats-of-arms including name of the family beneath each picture. The codicological analysis enabled to identify authors of both armorials, i. e. Kryštof Vilém Harant from Polžice and Bezdružice (1617-1690) and Václav Ignác Vratislav from Mitrovice (1645-1728) and the epoque of their creation in the 1670's and 1680's. Further research proved the necessity of creating an electronical databases that enabled to work effectively with immense volume of data. Analysis of the content of armorials showed that they contain 961 family coats-of-arms. Those represent from the two thirds Czech noble families, the rest is aproximately in the same...

- Educators in the Service of the Throne. Private Teachers of the Austrian- Hungarian Imperial Heirs Several potential successors were growing up during the lengthy reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. But two of them, the Emperor's own son Crown Prince Rudolph and his nephew Franz Ferdinand, could never ascend to the throne due to their premature deaths. His grandnephew, Archduke Charles Franz Joseph, claimed the throne in the tense times of the First World War. For a would-be successor, not only military education was essential, but also language skills and such subjects as history, law and economy that the future ruler of a vast and ethnically diverse state was expected to have a good command of. This paper focuses on the lives of teachers who attended both the Emperor's and the Archduke's courts.

Lifestyle and culture in the everyday life of Russian society in the late medieval period through the eyes of western Europeans

The intention of the presented dissertation was to examine reports provided by foreigners coming to Rus in the 15th and 16th centuries from the aspect of cognizance and perception of customs and institutions and everyday life of the country, and to shed light on this reflection made by people from a different cultural environment. For a better illustration of the perception of a specific reality in late medieval Rus and its interpretation by Western Europeans visitors, it was necessary to place their work into a more general framework of the history of the Russian state in the time when it was "rediscovered" by Western Europe, and to recall again the development of its relations with individual Western European subjects. The work is divided into the following parts. In the first chapter Rus and the West in the 15th and 16th Centuries, the development of events is outlined, which were fundamental in forming the Muscovite state in this period and its first "opening a window to Europe". The second chapter Western Europeans as a Source of Information about Rus presents a broader and thematically wider analysis of the used sources. Its aim is to introduce the authors who, in the given period, wrote work focused on Rus and the lives of its inhabitants. Attention is paid to the circumstances in which they visited...
