The thesis deals with the problem of domestic violence and its prevention. The first part of the thesis focuses on defining the key notions necessary to understand speci-fic characteristics of domestic violence. The next part of the thesis concentrates on con-temporary legal regulations on domestic violence, progress up to now, and this is being followed up by suggestions de lege ferenda on the end of the thesis. The essential part of the thesis deals with prevention and tries to present improvement suggestions.

- 1 - Abstract of Jan Horník's dissertation "Criminal law application of corruption and bribery" This dissertation, as it follows from its title, deals with the issues of corruption and bribery, mainly from the perspective of criminal substantive law. The author emphasises the fact that corruption has been discussed as an adverse social phenomenon which has for a long time constituted an issue of not only national dimension, but has been the object of activities of numerous international or multinational organisations due to its diversity and wide spread. Since the media cover corruption-related cases on an almost-daily basis (and we will leave it to the reader whether or not to believe the saying that everyone is corruptible, what only matters is the amount of the bribe offered and the circumstances under which it is offered), the author of this dissertation decided to highlight and explain the aspects related to corruption, and in that context to analyse the applicable laws of the Czech Republic. The aim of this dissertation is to introduce the reader to the general principles of the law applicable to penalisation of corruption, particularly from the perspective of criminal substantive law, and also from the perspectives of criminology and international law. Jana Tůmová Katedra trestního práva PF UK Strana 263 Synopsis The theme of this dissertation work is the issue of one of the exceptional punishments, namely that of life imprisonment, which following the abolition of capital punishment as the absolute punishment can be considered at the present time to constitute the strictest punishment which national courts may impose upon the establishment of guilt for the most serious criminal offences. This represents a continuously discussed theme, since this punishment in its purest form is the definitive punishment. The work focuses on the punishment of lifetime imprisonment as a whole, whilst the individual chapters link to one another logically and chronologically from the perspective of the time sequence of the criminal proceedings, including the executive proceedings.
