The king as a writer: The image of Anglo-Saxon rulers in the perspective of contemporary artists and society
Kantorová, Aneta ; Panušková, Lenka (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
The present thesis focuses on the importance of the written word as a ruling device of the Anglo- Saxon kings. Due to the availability of historical evidence, the studied period begins in 597 with the arrival of Christian missionaries from Rome and ends prior to the Norman Conquest in 1066. The kings' approach to the written word is analyzed on the basis of surviving literary and iconographic evidence, i.e. on documents composed for or by the rulers, and on the visual images of the rulers as portrayed in surviving manuscripts. The first chapter provides a historical background necessary for the correct interpretation of the examined texts and portraits. This section is aimed at the main concepts discussed in the thesis: medieval authorship, medieval kingship, and the spread of Christianity within the Anglo- Saxon kingdoms. The second chapter offers the analysis of written documents and focuses on the texts composed within the scope of King Alfred's educational and religious reform. The close reading of the OE translations demonstrates the king's use of the texts as didactic tools mainly serving to promote religion and learning within the kingdom. The key texts are Gregory's Pastoral Care, Augustine's Soliloquies, and Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy; an additional context of the king's life and...

Kantorová, Aneta ; Pilný, Ondřej (advisor) ; Wallace, Clare (referee)
Thesis Abstract The aim of this thesis is to provide a thorough overview of Brian Friel's attitude to historical writing based on an analysis of three of his plays that directly deal with the themes of Irish history and heritage - Translations, The Communication Cord, and Making History. The plays are analyzed from different perspectives, applying various sources and influences shaping Friel's understanding of the concept of history as such and its fictional representation in art. Upon this careful examination, major tendencies in Friel's historical writing are revealed offering a concise characterization of not only the plays in question but also of the Irish historical consciousness in general. The thesis is divided into four major chapters - one providing a theoretical background which would be later applied to the other three parts that deal directly with Friel's works. The theoretical part is further divided into a brief summary of the philosophy of history and a short introduction of the Field Day Theatrical Company. The former segment is based on Hayden White's Metahistory for he treats historical writing as a narrative rather than a scientific objective report. This part follows the development of the concept of history, truth, and art, and is mainly focused on Friedrich Nietzsche as an ideological...

Kantorová, Aneta
FHB caused by phytopathogenic fungi of the genus Fusarium, one of the world's most serious diseases of agricultural crops. Fusaria are major producers of mycotoxins side. We compared methods of cereals against fungi Fusarium year in conventional and organic farming and evaluate the effectiveness of selected compounds on the growth of mycelium F. culmorum and F. poae, occurring most often in the spring malting barley. In vitro, the cultures of the isolates Fusarium the effect of preparations Zinran and Dolosul for organic farming and active substance of fungicides Zantara, Hutton and Prosaro 250 EC for conventional agriculture on mycelial growth. High efficiency at suppressing the growth of the mycelium was observed when using a fungicidal composition Zantara head blight in both species. Low efficiency in suppressing the growth of mycelium head blight was observed in the preparation Dolosul, which is approved for application in organic agriculture. Fungicidal products used in conventional agriculture are more desired efficacy against fungi Fusarium year than products used in organic agriculture.
