Physical Activity and Nutrition in Therapy of Metabolic Syndrome
Joachimová, Marie ; Radvanský, Jiří (advisor) ; Illinger, Vojtěch (referee)
INTRODUCTION: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of risk factors which tend to occur together and belong to the main causes of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the treatment of metabolic syndrome dominates pharmacotherapy of the individual components. However, this therapy usually addresses the consequences rather than the causes and puts the patient in the position of a passive recipient of drugs. Although a change of lifestyle should be the cornerstone of prevention and treatment of the metabolic syndrome, the vast majority of the general and professional public doesn't know how and to what extent it can help. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to find recommendations on physical activity and nutrition in relation to the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome and the mechanisms of action. METHODS: Information was sought in scientific journals, books and websites of healthcare organizations. Review articles and meta-analysis were selected primarily from the journals, general information and recommendations related to the issues discussed were obtained from the books and websites. RESULTS: The available literature confirmed that the modification of physical activity and nutrition can significantly improve all of the metabolic abnormalities associated with metabolic...
The influence of footwear on biomechanics of foot strike of recreational runners
Pekárková, Klára ; Pokorný, Jan (advisor) ; Illinger, Vojtěch (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of hyperpronation syndrome of recreational runners, whose frequency is 15-20 % in the running community. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of footwear on the degree of hyperpronation and related parameters of the running step. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the kinesiology of the foot with emphasis on the functional issues of hyperpronation, biomechanics of the running step and the connection of the running step with running injuries. In the practical part, running in footwear and running barefoot are compared using images from 2D kinematic analysis and data from the Zebris FDM-T System. The clinical examination of the modified Trendelenburg and Véle test is also evaluated. The monitored group consists of 13 recreational runners (7 men and 6 women, average age 26,5 years). The measured parameters are the degree of hyperpronation (objectified by the eversion of the heel and the progressive angle of the foot), the loading time of the functional sections of the foot, the inclination angle of the foot, the frequency and the length of the stride. The results of the thesis show that the change in afferentation and the associated change in the biomechanics of foot strike in footwear have a statistically significant effect on the degree...
The Assessment of Heart Rate Dynamics and of the QTc Interval During Recovery Phase Depending on the Position of the Body
Mecová, Marie ; Procházka, Michal (advisor) ; Illinger, Vojtěch (referee)
At present, doctors are not consistent in the way they set the QTc interval in the recovery phase. The main goal of this study was to screen healthy subjects in the two different exercise stress tests and to compare the obtained data from both tests. We wanted to explore whether the heart rate and the QTc interval differs from each other when performed in two different body positions during the recovery phase. The main purpose was to present evidence that would prove or disprove a hypothesis that the figures differ in the different body positions. In the theoretical part we submitted the main information about the heart rate, the QT interval and the relationship between them. We compared the behaviour of the obtained data during the exercise and during the recovery phase. We described the causes of the QTc prolongation and how it is related to the cardiac arrhythmias. In the practical part we examined 20 healthy subjects. Each of them underwent two exercise stress tests on the bicycle ergometer, up to the subjective maximum level of the exercise intensity. The subjects then recovered in two different positions. The first one was a supine position. The second rest position was on the bicycle ergometer set to very low intensity. We found out that the 4-minute recovery phase, the most important for...
