Prague and Florentine neoreneissance architecture
Boháčová, Kateřina ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Hoftichová, Petra (referee)
The recovery of the historicist style s was caused by the inconsistence of the period that took the past as something perfect and incomparable, but at the same time wanted to be distanced from it. Architecture helped the people to cross the chasm between the period before and after the industrial revolution. The fact that one had around him modem buildings, in technical sense, that cited the past, could give him a feeling that he lived in the past and present at the same time. This thesis would like to present the architecture in the cultural and historical context of the 19th century and show a least a lirtle bit of its connections with the society, ideas, preference s and abilities to face up to changes, and as well as to find the moments that led to the comeback of the renaissance period. It tries to show both critical and adoring views on historicist architecture that was appreciated in recent time. The first part of the thesis presents the historical and cultural situation in both countries because this fact could help to understand the ideological origins of the neo-renaissance architecture. It shows the opinions of the specialists on the historici st architecture. The thesis is focused on Prague and Florence and tries to discover the reasons why the renaissance style was in these countries so admired...

Beside the official art under the dictate of socialist realism the antinomie movements occured here; connecting at prewar modem and avantgarde at the beginning. After enforcing the abandoning of the interdict of art groups, the artists began to associate themselves to different groups, based on friendship or collective artistic opinions. One ofthese groups was UB 12, founded in 1959. The artists ofthe group were of different age; beside of friendship the admiration for French culture and art and also the "poetics of everyday life" was the link between some of them. The group broke after the year 1968. Although the group wasn't united in artistic manners and didn't have the collective manifesto (which often led to its evaluation as average or inexpressive ), it assumed important place in the Czech art. Many of its members (like Václav Boštík, Stanislav Kolíbal, Adriena Šimotová) are considered as ones of the most outstanding artistic personalities of the Czech art of the second half of201 h...
