Johnová, Eliška ; Gallus, Petr (advisor) ; Janečková, Hana (referee)
The BA thesis titled "Dysthanasia: Home care as one of the prevention methods of dysthanasia" deals with the issue of prolonged death and proposes solutions to prevent it. The theoretical part introduces to readers the basic concepts related to the finiteness of life. It discusses death from both medical and theological perspectives, and further describes in detail the concept of dysthanasia as one of the ways of dealing with death. The thesis defines the problems associated with dysthanasia and proposes palliative care as the best approach to prevent this issue. It also mentions organizational forms of specialized palliative care to follow up on the chapter describing home care for the dying, which is not only the best solution in preventing a negative approach to death and dying, but also meets the wishes of the majority of the population who wish to die in a familiar environment close to their family or friends. The last chapter mentions supportive services that help caregivers in caring for the dying. The practical part focuses on the closer examination of home care for the dying and its function in practice. This section is based on qualitative research and information obtained through semi-structured interviews. Keywords Finitude of life, death, dying, dysthanasia, palliative care, home care,...
Res publica - res christiana? Biblical motivation and the Czech Brethren's perspective of christian political engagement
Roll, Benjamin ; Gallus, Petr (advisor) ; Morée, Pieter Cornelis Adrianus (referee)
This diploma thesis entitled Res publica - res christiana? Biblical motivation and the Czech Brethren's perspective of christian political engagement deals with possible theological basis for Christian political engagement. The first chapter maps the biblical principles and passages inspiring the work of Christians in today's society. In the second chapter, the author deals with the life and work of the most important czech protestant theologian of the 20th century J. L. Hromádka. On specific examples of his public activities and theological statements, the author shows the key ideas and experiences that form the approach to this issue still present in the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. Both of these chapters form the basic basis for the author's final chapter, which outlines his own theological perspective. He put this perspective in the context of personal experience with political activism in defense of liberal democracy in the Czech Republic.

Secularization as a provocation Christianity to the theological basis of the social theory of P. Berger and Ch. Taylor
Doležal, Kryštof ; Gallus, Petr (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee)
This master thesis is focused on interpreting theological motives in the social theory of P. L. Berger and Ch. Taylor, particularly in relation to their interpretation of the concepts of secularization and secularity. The first objective of the thesis is to demonstrate whether these partial sociological concepts can be read as theologically conditioned. Consequently, to elucidate how the dependence of these concepts on their theological origins influences the explanation of the pertinence of Christianity in the contemporary world. The second aim of this thesis is to testify the inner connection between the ideas of both authors; in order to explain how and for what reason the concepts of secularization and secularity acquire the same or different expressions. This thesis is organized into four sections, the first section defines the framework of the secularization debate in which the topic of this work operates. The second and third sections provide an analysis of Berger and Taylor's sociological approach. The last section compares the concepts that prove to be essential for the interpretation of secularization and secularity in Berger and Taylor.
State and Church in Calvin's Thought: Sovereign Powers in Cooperation
Matulová, Lucie ; Keřkovský, Pavel (advisor) ; Gallus, Petr (referee) ; Macek, Ondřej (referee)
My doctoral thesis focuses on the church-state relationship in Calvin's thought. His model of the church- state relationship shows both powers to be sovereign, but at the same time in cooperation. The aim of my thesis is to verify the similarity between the progressive and ecclesiastical power of the state in terms of its institutionalization. Man is under twofold government (secular and spiritual) the attempt to separate these two governments is not only possible, but even desirable. They are not mutually incompatible, for God reigns in both. The concept of the Church moved from the invisible realm into the visible one with a solid organizational structure. The true Church is recognizable by its key features: the pure preaching of the Word of God and the proper administration of the sacraments according to Christ's will. Church and state administration have proved necessary for human survival. Calvin tries to reduce the danger of absolute power in both governments. Ecclesiastical power, which was originally connected only with the power of the keys, developed into three branches. Similarly, secular government was divided into three parts. An important topic for Calvin is his conception of the law. Christ liberated man from the tyranny of the law so that he could freely follow it. Man has civic duties,...
Danz and Schröter: Current concepts of protestant Christology
Kučera, Jiří ; Gallus, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
This dissertation presents current concepts of protestant Christology, primarily based on how contemporary German theologians Christian Danz and Jens Schröter formulate their Christological theses. The first two parts of the thesis present the Christological concepts of both theologians. The presentation of the two conceptions follows their distinctive character and is not primarily structured for direct comparison. The work thus also covers aspects of the two theologians that are difficult to compare. The third part of the thesis is devoted to a critical comparison of the presented Christological conceptions. The comparison highlights specific moments in both theologians, their possible contradictions, and, at times, surprising agreements. The thesis does not conclude only by stating the partial differences of the Christological conceptions but attempts to formulate some current Christological trends in a more general way. Finally, the thesis concludes with the formulation of theses that could guide the author's Christological conception.

The esthetical experience as a religious experience: Gadamer and Luther.
Taufer, Filip ; Gallus, Petr (advisor) ; Navrátilová, Olga (referee)
H.-G. Gadamer prirovnáva skúsenosť umeleckého diela k hre, symbolu a slávnosti a v kontexte symbolu ďalej k náboženskému rituálu - Večeri Pánovej v poňatí Martina Luthera.
