The water resources of the Nile basin in the context of conflicts and peaceful cooperation
Hošková, Lucie ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Frajer, Václav (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of water resources in the Nile basin in the context of conflict and peaceful cooperation. The main aim of the work is to assess the hydropolitical potential, whether conflictory or rather cooperative is relevant. Following this goal, subsequently identify the main geopolitical actors in the Nile basin and see if the two tributaries of the Nile, blue and White Nile, differ in terms of hydropolitical potential. The theoretical framework of the work is defined by international-political concepts of neo-realism, i.e. whether disputes are primarily between states in the form of the demarcation of interests and power, or neoliberalism, which presupposes mutual cooperation in the framework of the management of resources. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the definition of the geographical-historical context with a focus on the East African region and the Nile basin following its character and history. A systematic review was chosen as the method of processing this work.
Agriculture of the ECOWAS States
Toman, Jiří ; Frajer, Václav (advisor) ; Hubálek, Radek (referee)
1 Abstrakt Hospodářské společenství západoafrických států dnes víceméně funguje pouze na úrovni bilaterálních vztahů a pouze za předpokladu politické stability. Přestože integrace z počátku proklamovala řadu sáhodlouhých a líbivých prohlášení, zůstalo většinou pouze u nesplněných přání a politických předsevzetí. Řada států spolu v ekonomické oblasti prakticky nespolupracuje, což samozřejmě ztěžují i velké vzdálenosti a nedostatek komunikací.

Regional Differentiation of Swahili Identity - Case Study of Vanga and Ushongo
Mbezi, Barbora ; Havlíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Frajer, Václav (referee)
This thesis deals with the formation of the Swahili identity within two countries: Kenya and Tanzania. The Swahili people have inhabited the East African coast since the first millennium, utilizing local resources to trade and to create their sophisticated social position. The philosophy of Islam had a considerable influence on the development of the Swahili culture. These traditional elements typical for the Swahili culture were significantly restricted by the period of colonialism, where newly formed boundaries divided this ethnic group. The situation on both sides of the border is analysed through quantitative and qualitative research, which offers a complex view on the issue. The results show that selected cities are very similar with only small differences - often related to the closeness or openness of the village towards increasing tourism. In general the established boundaries play almost no role in shaping the Swahili identity. The Swahili people retain their traditional position within the East African coast, although their relations with other countries are less pronounced as the distance between them increases.
