Party Preferences and Voting Model in January 2009

In January survey CVVM investigated how people trust to political Parties and whether they are willing to take part in elections to Chamber of Deputies. In the press release there are two different types of information : Party preference and a model of voting behaviour. Party preferences give us information about public sympathy with political Parties in the group of citizens who have voting right and there is also included a part of citizens who will not take part in elections or they do not knot who to vote for. Voting model indicate anticipated result of elections to Chamber of Deputies in the time of the survey. Voting model comes out of Party preferences but it includes only those who want to take part in elections and they answered us a Party they would vote for – in short this group does not include undecided people and non – voters.

In January 2009 CVVM SOÚ AV ČR investigated whether respondents trust to selected politicians. They were given a list with 28 names of top politicians who represent political parties present in Chamber of Deputies.
Security Risks for the Czech Republic in the Public Opinion View

In december 2008 CVVM investigated on security issues. As a most serious threat for peace and security in the Czech Republic is considered to be an international organized crime (61 % of informants consider it as a „serious thread“) followed by terrorism (53 %). Currently the calamities (33 %) or epidemics (31 %) are seen as a real threat for the Czech Republic by Czech citizens more than the eventual war conflict (16 %). As a most dangerous countries for peace and security in the Czech Republic were mentioned Russian federation (17 %), Iraq (16 %), Afghanistan (14 %), Iran (12 %), USA (8 %) and China (8 %).
The expectations of Czech citizens towards the future

In december survey CVVM focused on people's fears. Two thirds of informants admitted that they were afraid of something. The most frequent were a fear of unemployment (32 %), a disease (23 %) and fall of living standard (17 %). Another questions concerned on the future of personal life of informants, the future of the czech society and the future of the humankind at all. The majority was optimistic about their own future (65 %) but only 44 % of informants were optimistic about the czech society and even less of them were optimistic about the future of the humankind (37 %)
Public about health system

In December 2008 CVVM investigated opinions of Czech public on situation in health department. We were interested not only in satisfaction of citizens with health system and quality of medical care, but also we probed attitudes to some concrete aspects of health service. Most problematic is according to Czechs funding of public health (74 %). On the other hand least citizens find problems concerning relationships between doctors and patients (26 %).
Citizens on U.S. Anti-Missile Radar Base in Czech Republic - December 2008

According to December survey of CVVM SOÚ AV ČR 65 % of Czech citizens did not agree with planned deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic, on the other hand 28 % of respondents would approve it. 70 % respondents expressed their opinion that this question should be decided in a referendum, 22 % of Czechs disagreed with holding a plebiscite in this matter. People who are against the referendum are for the most part supporters of idea to locate the U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic. Majority of Czechs (69 %) expects that Czech parliament will pass the agreements on radar. 39 % of Czech citizens think that Barack Obama will continue with the project of deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic continuously, 29 % expect some postponement and re-evaluation of the plan from new U.S. administration and 5 % think that Barack Obama will not have an interest to continue with deployment of U.S. anti-missile defence system in Europe and will freeze the plan to build the radar base in Czech republic.
Public relationship to other nationalities

In December survey the CVVM focused on Czech relationship to other nations and nationalities. Respondents were shown a list with 24 nationalities and they were asked to evaluate these nationalities with marks from 1 to 7 according to their sympathies for these nationalities (1 – very sympathetic and 7-very unsympathetic). Respondents find Czechs as the most sympathetic nation (on average 1,8). Positive public attitude was expressed to Slovaks, Frenchmen, Swedes, Englishmen, Austrians and Greeks (2,0 -3,0). Poles, Japaneses, Hungarians, Americans, Germans, Indians, Lithuanians, were found a little bit less sympathetic (3,1 – 4,0). On the other side nations such as Russians, Serbs, Ukrainians, Israelis, Chineses, Turks and Kurds are supposed to be less sympathetic. And finally the worst evaluated were Afghans, Palestinians and Iraqis (more than 5,1).
Czechs on U.S. Presidential Election

Almost three fifths of Czech citizens (58 %) were at least partly interested in American presidential election. 53 % of Czechs were satisfied with its outcome, 33 % expressed an indifferent position that they are "neither satisfied nor dissatisfied" and only 4 % said out their dissatisfaction with Barack Obama's victory.
Public Opinion on the Treaty of Lisbon

In november 2008 the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on the questions about the Treaty of Lisbon. About one quarter (24%) of Czechs has good knowledge about what the term 'Treaty of Lisbon' means. About three quarters (76%) of Czech population do not have enough information about the Treaty of Lisbon and 18 % are interested in the course of events related to the treaty.
