Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation in February 2009 In February 2009 within the regular survey CVVM SOÚ AV ČR, v.v.i., questioned respondents about their confidence in constitutional institutions. In this month there was a question about their trust to Chambers of Parliament, Government, President, Local and Regional Councils. As a part of the CVVM surveys there is a question about public satisfaction with current political situation in the Czech Republic. The regular survey of public confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation help to monitor development of public attitudes in the long term.
Public Opinion on Financial Crisis

According to January regular survey, 58 % of Czechs are convinced the financial crisis will affect their personal situation or the situation of their households, 29 % have opposite expectations. Two thirds (67%) of population are interested in course of events connected with the financial crisis and 85 % expect negative impact of crisis to economic development of the Czech Republic. One quarter of population (26%) thinks, the response of Czech government to the crisis is good, 45 % consider it as bad, and 29 % do not know.
Evaluation of the Economic Level of the Czech Republic and Other Countries

The current economic level of the Czech Republic is seen rather positive (64%) than negative (35%). In comparison to other nine countries included in the survey, the Czech Republic took the third place ahead of all post-socialist countries; the first and second position is occupied by Germany and Austria. Compared to the previous survey in January 2008, the evaluation of the economic level of the Czech Republic has not changed.
Evaluation of the situation in some areas of public life and expected development of these areas in the year 2009

In December 2008, January 2009 and February 2009 survey CVVM posed a few questions on a basic satisfaction with the chosen areas of public life. People were most satisfied with supply of goods and services (68 % "satisfied") and culture (51 %). Dissatisfaction was related mainly to corruption (75 % "dissatisfied") followed by economic crime (69 %), political situation (64 %) and social benefits (62 %).
Public opinion on performance of president Vaclav Klaus

In its regular survey in January 2009 the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on the questions about the Vaclav Klaus' presidency. Most Czechs think president Klaus is good in taking care of dignity and respect of his office (80 %) and he fulfills his constitutional functions (78 %). Majority of Czech population supposes president Vaclav Klaus is an autority for people (68 %) and represents the Czech Republic in foreign countries good (59 %). More critic are Czechs to the president‘s influence on political events in the Czech Republic, only 48 % find it „very good“ or „somewhat good“. Also the president's contact with citizens and his awareness of their problems is perceived rather bad, only 36 % of people think president's performance in this particular area is good.
Public Opinion on the Treaty of Lisbon

In January 2009, Public Opinion Research Centre questioned Czech public about the Treaty of Lisbon. People were asked, whether they know, what the term "Treaty of Lisbon" means, whether they are informed about the treaty and interested in this topic. Except these questions, the survey investigated the public opinion on the parliament and ratification of the treaty, and whether the position of the Czech Republic will be better, the same or worse, if the treaty is adopted.
Citizens about the Presidency to the European Union

In January survey the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on topic of the presidency of the European Union. The Czech Republic has assumed the presidency of the EU on 1 January 2009. The respondents were asked if they are interested in this topic or if they have a lot of informations about the presidency. The survey also investigated citizens’ evaluation of the Czech Republic’s preparations for the presidency.
Party Preferences and Voting Model in February 2009

In February survey CVVM investigated how people trust to political Parties and whether they are willing to take part in elections to Chamber of Deputies. In the press release there are two different types of information : Party preference and a model of voting behaviour. Party preferences give us information about public sympathy with political Parties in the group of citizens who have voting right and there is also included a part of citizens who will not take part in elections or they do not knot who to vote for. Voting model indicate anticipated result of elections to Chamber of Deputies in the time of the survey. Voting model comes out of Party preferences but it includes only those who want to take part in elections and they answered us a Party they would vote for – in short this group does not include undecided people and non – voters.
World Financial Crisis In View Of Czech Public

According to December survey 58 % of Czechs are concerned with the situation regarding present world financial crisis, 41 % do not care about it. 78 % expect negative impact of crisis to economic development in the Czech Republic. 40 % see the reaction of Czech government to present situation as bad, 28 % expressed opposite meaning. 61 % would support state’s financial bailout to firms in danger of breakdown caused by crisis.
