Baugruppe Now
Bevelaquová, Diana ; Landa, Filip (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
Is it better to live in country or in a city? Great access to work, school, shopping and culture or close proximity to nature, weekend barbecues with neighbors and tranquility. Do we have to choose? Is it possible to combine these qualities? Is the Baugruppe principle able to solve the housing conundrums of the current era? “Baugruppe is a group of people that combine their finances and efforts to construct an apartment building conforming to their notion of ideal living while remaining affordable.” (1) To me the Baugruppe lifestyle seems to be wedged in between the city experience and the more traditional way of living outside of it. In between the preplanned structure of the residences and the organic growth of the dwellings. In this bachelor’s thesis I examine these alternatives and their pros which beg to be merged together. I ponder the question: is it possible to embody this betweenness in the design of the residential complex – in its urban composition, its structure, its formal expression as well as its typology. On one hand prefabricated construction of apartment buildings based on market research brings monotone anonymity on the other hand it allows financial and construction efficiency. While the individual nature of a regular house project may enable freedom of expression, it may also hinder this freedom for any other project surrounding it. The houses themselves reflect the aesthetic values of their owners. The various reworks and additions reflect their changing needs. In Baugruppe the willingness to share space with members of the same community as well as outsiders meets the need to own real estate. The main goal of course still remains living well. In one’s own space, with neighbors of one’s own choosing, utilizing the economic and cultural assets of the city, while saving money that can be better used elsewhere. Be it larger living space or a greenhouse filled with tomatoes next to the house. (1) BAUGRUPPE! Manual, available on: http://www.baugruppe.cz/index.php?page=baugruppe-manual
Trees Have the Power
Mikušková, Nina ; Fajnor, Richard (referee) ; Kovářová, Marta (advisor)
The project "Trees Have The Power" is being developed since 2013 and revolves around the strength of interpersonal connections experienced throughout our lives. It points out the reality, that we all create our own micro-cosmos around us, shaped and expanded by every new person we meet. First phase of the project involved exhibition of a tree within a gallery, which served as a metaphor of an ever expanding organism. For the second phase an online social platform was developed, to map out and connect my personal contacts. The third outcome offers space to present the "tree". By involving people from my own personal tree of connections, we are creating lectures, interactive events, concerts, film screenings, and discussions focused on multiple aspects of life. The aim is both to test the skills and initiative of a specific community as a driving force in sharing and accumulating knowledge and experience; and at the same time to demonstrate the magnitude of impact of such activity. This unorthodox framework of encounter offers opportunity to generate new perspectives within the community, and enrich the audience.
Interactive Document Sharing
Jóba, Viktor ; Jurzykowski, Michal (referee) ; Mlích, Jozef (advisor)
The thesis deals with the real-time sharing and editing of text documents in the network. The synchronization of the document content for all users in the shared session is ensured by the algorithm of operational transformations. This method is described in the thesis in detail. The outcome of the thesis is a simple text editor that communicates over the network using the extended version of the XMPP protocol. One of the users creates a document sharing session in the editor and invites other users to cooperate on the rich text document that can be saved in HTML or exported into PDF.

Multimedia Grid
Šimko, Viliam
The thesis describes the possibilities and issues of existing videoconferencing systems. We focus on open-source solutions for group-to-group communication especially the AccessGrid technology that utilizes the multicast packet delivery method of multimedia content. We describe AccessGrid node created for CIANT organization, which has been taken as a starting point for defining the architecture of a videoconferencing system based exclusively on open-source components, particularly Linux and related software. We address issues related to firewalls and NAT traversal and provide a comparison of various videoconference-related codecs and protocols. Finally, the text touches the question of recording and archiving of conference sessions and provides a new integrated recording application -- StreamVNC. The tool allows users to prepare their presentations using localhost recording facility which includes AGVCR for recoding RTP packets, EVIC for grabbing the VNC display and camera source and RAT as an audio encoder.
