The sector employs 44.7% of the general labour force which makes it the principal employer in Ghana. Therefore, this study is to examine the impact of the agricultural sector on employment in Ghana and then explore the perceptions of people about the sector. The study involved a cross-sectional study design within the peri urban communities in the Ga south municipality. Data collection in this study was done using a structured questionnaire with 17 items which is partly made up of a 5-point Likert scale. A total of 351 participants were conveniently sampled for the study. Data analysis was done by STATA statistical software version IC 15. The results of the study showed that agriculture employs 43.87% of the inhabitants of the municipality. Also, the study found that constraints such as lack of Agricultural land, inadequate Agriculture financing, Land degradation and conflicts, Poor income generation and High cost of farm input to be the most common challenges of the Agriculture sector. Additionally, individuals were found to have positive perception on economic outcomes of agricultural employment whiles they disagreed on the negative perceptions about the sector. Most of the participants 59% were in agriculture as the main source of income while 34% engaged in agriculture for extra income.
