Optimization of Logistic Process in a provider for forwarding services
VOVSOVÁ, Petra
The aim of this work is the optimization of logistic processes in the system of forwarding services. This work focuses on a company GLS Czech Republic. The company was formed by grouping several carriers in Germany in 1999 which has further expanded throughout Europe. In March 2005, Hungarian GLS decided to establish a branch in the Czech Republic and since then, 16 other branches have been built. Nowadays, GLS provides several types of delivering services which can be divided into classical services and services with added value. Classical services include Business-Parcel (of max. 40 kilos) and Express-Parcel (which must be delivered by 12:00). Value added services include signed on delivery shipment, collecting shipments and shipment with exact delivery time. The theoretical part deals with interpretation of the concept of logistic, its history and development. It focuses on the terminology such as logistic chain and logistic elements and their use in shipping services, further on transport and finally on shipping itself. The logistic processes in the company were inspected and evaluated. The used methods include observing, structural questionnaires and guided interview. Additional information was obtained from internal documents, especially reports of delivered consignments, audit, internal manuals and emails. The practical part mapped the current situation in the company. Several failings have been found, the biggest one is communication with the switchboard which is insufficient and in some cases non-functional. Other critical parts include labelling, shipping to wrong addresses, payment by credit card, technical condition of vehicles, main transhipment and staff training. Measures have been suggested to the impact of failures. The final part of this work contains summary and work contribution.

This thesis solves the problem of distribution of costs between consignments of charter trucks in the forwarding company. It focuses on issues in the field of international less than truck transportations. The goal is to create a new algorithm that will be used in practice. Solving of the problem is based on the algorithm that is used in the forwarding company. The created algorithm takes into account more aspects which are necessary for the correct calculation. The data is processed by using Microsoft Excel. The solution enables the company to view how consignments are profitable or unprofitable. Through the analysis and comparison of results of the case study was found that in present practice the management makes bad decisions because of erroneous calculations. Based on the analysis it is possible to compare the results of divided costs. The algorithm and its results would allow the company to make right decisions especially in trade department of the company. The contribution of this thesis is the application of the new calculation method into practice.
