Enhanced Interrogation Techniques in the US: Efficiency and Controversy

The bachelor thesis titled Enhanced interrogation techniques: efficiency and controversy examines questioning program of American intelligence services called Enhanced interrogation program. This program was used since the beginning of American War on Terror and due to its harsh nature, it has created a massive wave of controversy throughout the world. The program, most commonly used during the questioning of Al Qaeda and Taliban terrorists, is frequently considered as ineffective, immoral and illegal. The principle aim of this work is an attempt to show that the launch of this program and its application during interrogation sessions of Islamic terrorists played key role in preventing other terrorist attacks with potentially catastrophic outcomes. In this effort the biggest section of the work is dedicated to getting acquainted with the course of the interrogation sessions which used the enhanced interrogation techniques. Based on the compilation with traditional interrogation techniques we can determine the effectiveness of the program and its effect to war against terror. No less important is the categorization of the program in terms of American and international legislation and reviewing whether or not is enhanced interrogation program violating any of these terms in any manner.
