The bachelor thesis concerns the gardens of villa neighbourhoods and their specifics. The theoretical part contains definition of basic terms, description of origin and historical development of villas, villa gardens and villa neighbourhoods. The gained characteristics have been verified on the model area Tiché (Quiet) Valley in Roztoky. There have been determined also the specifics of the Tiché Valley’s gardens. For chosen gardens have been created registration cards that describe a current state of the gardens and a presence of historical structures. The results of literary and field research were summarized to a general characteristic of villa gardens. Textual, pictorial and other materials were collected and interpreted to analyse the particular designed garden of villas 110 and 125 in the Tiché Valley. The listed object with preserved fragments of terraces, stone-walls and other historical structures have been designed with an emphasis on a unified character. The resulting design is an adaptation that respects the character of the area while taking into account current requirements. The design reflects the historical appearance of the place and creates a public villa garden The aim of this work is to point out the importance and uniqueness of gardens in villa neighbourhoods as a full-fledged part of the villa architecture. The work could serve as a basis for possible arguments aimed at the protection of the gardens in villa neighbourhoods and presents the possibility of the contemporary approach to their design.

The dissertation aimes with the interpretation of the develompent of residential landscape architecture in interwar Czechoslovakia (CSR), on the alanysis of the functional and compositional approaches of villa gardens determined by the types of vegetation and technical elements, including methods of their use. It focuses on the characteristics of the work of selected landscape architects. It classifies the results of archival research focused on the identification and interpretation of resources, connected with the gardens, the creation of selected landscape architects and creation of gardens in general. Evalutes the results of the field survey, which deals with documenting the develompment of the gardens, structural elements of each composition, creation of landscape architects, and simultaneously try to assess the current state of the analyzed gardens. The practical outcome of the dissertation are methodological principles aimed at restoring the gardens in interwar Czechoslovakia, taking into account the specifics of their maintanance.

The thesis deals with the topic of the use of the climbing plants in the territory of the Czech Republic in the first half of the 20th century with a focus on villa gardens architecture. The work concerns the main factors affecting the period use of plants, villa gardens and significant landscape architects of that era, who significantly influenced the garden and landscape production and form of private gardens at that time. It characterizes the climbing plants employed in the given period, the period range of these plants with availability in the current offer of nursery firms, object of residential gardens determined by the given period with documentation of period use of climbing plants and recommendations for the use of these plants in the restoration of period objects. Findings of the study are supported by the analysis of the historical plan documentation and historical price lists and catalogues. The information obtained from historical plans compares the field research of the fourteen surviving objects of residential gardens with pictorial documentation.

The theme of the thesis is a reconstruction of villa garden, which was formed in the late 19th and early 20th century in the Czech lands. In order to obtain knowledge about the form of villa gardens, this thesis focuses on literature review and studies books written by landscape architects of the period. Last but not least, it studies the work of those architects and recent publications of garden architects and architectural historians. Twenty villa gardens were visited to evaluate their status and current use. Four out of nineteen are already reconstructed therefore the approach to villa garden reconstruction will be presented here. Based on all of these studies and an analysis of the Bratmann villa garden in Valašské Klobouky, an architectural study was made. The study reflects possible original form of that garden, design of other reference villa gardens at the time and also current use of Bratmann villa garden.
