Teachers' Occupational Health from a Gender Perspective

This master's thesis focuses on occupational health among Czech teachers, providing a gender perspective on this topic. The aim of the thesis is to analyze central themes related to occupational health which are specific for the teaching profession as well as to identify potential role of gender in teachers' occupational health. The theoretical part of the thesis describes key components of occupational health in relation to the teaching profession. Specifically, the attention is paid to job satisfaction and work engagement which represent positive aspects of occupational health. Next, job stress and burnout which represent negative aspects of occupational health are defined. These concepts are first discussed on a general level in the context of occupational health psychology research and then specifically in the context of the teaching profession. In the next chapter of the thesis, the concept of gender is defined, and research findings concerning gender differences and inequalities in the teaching profession and teachers' occupational health are presented. The empirical part of the thesis used qualitative research design.
