Analysis of Volunteering in Region České Budějovice
WOLMUTH, Karolína
The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of volunteering. The aim of this work is the analysis of volunteering in the České Budějovice region. To fulfill this goal is introduced the basic theoretical background and description of the current state of volunteering in the Czech Republic. In the first three chapters of the thesis there is a definition of volunteering, its use in the social sphere, and the approach of the Czech public to volunteering. Volunteer management is described in more detail, with an emphasis on the process of selecting volunteers, ensuring their preparation for volunteering, and attention is also paid to the evaluation and motivation of volunteers. The practical part describes the realized qualitative research, whose aim was to analyze the implementation of volunteering in the České Budějovice region. The main research question was: What does the issue of volunteer management currently look like in the České Budějovice area? Five partial research questions were derived from this question. The methods of data collection were semi-structured interviews and also the analysis of documents. The sample consisted of five communication partners from organizations in the České Budějovice region, who act as a volunteer coordinator. Data from interviews were analyzed using grounded theory design. The outcome was to propose a new theory in which emphasis is placed on strengthening the role of supervision in volunteer management. Volunteers do not use supervision, and contact the coordinators if necessary. However, coordinators are burdened with increased administration and cannot take responsibility for the work of the employees of organizations where volunteers operate and who should provide the necessary support and guidance to volunteers. In addition, supervision should serve as a tool to strengthen the identity of the volunteer and to increase interest in volunteering in society through awareness raising by well-run volunteers.

Half of the respondents considered a change of a job due to mental and/or physical demands. More than half of health care professionals are aware of psychosocial intervention care system. The survey further shows that healthcare professionals find themselves in extreme mental stress that would potentially require psychosocial intervention care. Only a low percentage of healthcare professionals will use this service. A qualitative survey shows that healthcare professionals are afraid of loss of anonymity when using psychosocial intervention care. This is related to mistrust in peers. From a peer point of view, it is important to be more aware of this service, helping healthcare professionals in their psychologically demanding occupation, which will increase their use and efficiency. The output of this thesis will be a proposal to include topics on psychosocial intervention care in regular training for employees.
