Suicidal Tendencies of Seniors in Telephone Crisis Intervention
Maliňáková, Barbora ; Havránková, Olga (advisor) ; Vodáčková, Daniela (referee)
(in English): The topic of my thesis is the suicidal tendencies of elderly people. The topic is examined from the point of view of crisis hotlines. I describe terms such as old age, telephone crisis intervention and basic developmental needs (Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor) in the theoretical part. The following practical part focuses on crisis hotlines in the Czech Republic and their statistics concerning suicidal calls. The next part of the research is the analyses of interviews with social workers working on crisis hotlines and the analyses of notes from the talks with suicidal clients. I propose different instruments for the prevention of the suicidal tendencies of elderly people in the discussion.
Elderly Suicide Rates in the Helping Professionals' Point of View - District Karlovy Vary
Puchálková, Michala ; Havránková, Olga (advisor) ; Dragomirecká, Eva (referee)
The author in her diploma theses deals with the problem of elderly suicide rates in the helping professionals' point of view in the district of Karlovy Vary. Her two key focus areas are personal experiences of the helping professionals with this particular topic and their knowledgeableness of it. Furthermore, the author validates whether the helping professionals are supported adequately enough to be able to deal with this phenomenon appropriately. In the theoretical part of the study the author presents basic introduction into the issue of suicide itself - briefly outlines the history of suicide rate and the most common motive, causes and forms of suicidal behavior. Moreover, she sketches the specifics of suicide rate among seniors and ways of working with this particular target group. Last but not least she drafts possible preventive techniques of suicide behavior among seniors. In the empirical part of the study the author explains the research methodology and briefly describes the district of Karlovy Vary. Most importantly the author presents findings concerning experience and knowledgeability of suicide rate among seniors by helping professionals gathered by research consisting of semi-structured interviews. She also thoroughly examines the professionals' point of view on individual elements...
The Effect of Temperature on Suicide: A Meta-Analysis
Bartušek, Daniel ; Havránková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Bajzík, Josef (referee)
In this thesis I investigate the empirical evidence on the relationship between temperature and suicide rates. The previous survey on the relationship sug- gested that a 1řC increase in temperature is associated with a 1% increase in suicide risk. An estimate of this magnitude would play a significant role in the computation of the social cost of carbon, a concept used to set climate-related regulations by policymakers around the world. I challenge this conclusion using novel, state-of-the-art meta-analysis methods. By expanding the dataset and correcting for publication bias I show that the effect of temperature on suicide rates is three times less than previously suggested, deeming the relationship economically insignificant. Moreover, I did not find any robust evidence for a specific study design that would systematically influence the magnitude of the estimated effect quantifying this relationship. Comparisson of the level of suicidality in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Spain
Antovová, Michaela ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Miskolczi, Martina (referee)
The thesis examines suicidality in selected countries. The main goal is to compare the level of suicidality in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Spain, and to note down identical and dissmiliar outlines. In the following part, there is compared dependence of suicides on economic indicators (gross national product per person and rate of unemployment). The highest results of gross rate of suicidality are in the Czech Republic, then in Sweden and eventually in Spain. Suicidality of men is much higher than suicidality of women. The specific rate of suicidality increases with growing age. The most used method is hanging and throttling to death. Most of suicides are commited in spring. High indirest dependece of specific rate of suicidality and gross national product per person was ascertained in all above mentioned countries. As to rate of unemployment the lower relation was ascertained only in Sweden.
