Tichá Stronghold, distr. Český Krumlov. The use of the stronghold space in the light of geophysical prospection and archaeological excavation

During the last years in connection with renovation of the important medieval monument in the most southern edge of South Bohemia, Tichá Stronghold, an archaeological as well as geophysical survey was undertaken. In the article the results of both surveys are discussed and compared.
Mladá Boleslav in early medieval period and its hinterland

The first aim of this thesis is to map and summarize current archaeological knowledge of early medieval settlement in direct neighborhood of early medieval strongholds Mladá Boleslav and Švédské šance (cadastral Chloumek). This neighborhood is specified arbitrary more or less in distance of 5km from Mladá Boleslav. The second aim is to process spatial data of settlement in GIS programs and create predictive models. These models are valorized, criticized and interpreted by assistance of existing evidences of early medieval central places' hinterlands then. In next step possible form and development of hinterland is outlined.In the context of this thesis was made ground survey by analytical field working at site of Švédské šance. Ceramic material from this survey is evaluated by spatial data, categorized by chronology of czech early medieval and compared to donated ceramic set.

This paper makes an attempt to distinguish parts of the Early Medieval agglomeration of Libice fromthe point of view of social topography and functions. Evaluation of archeological sources has shown that the standard archaeological division of a centre into acropolis, bailey and suburbium in terms of thein expected functions does not work and should be used only for general description of the topography of the site.
To the knowledge of the environment of Great Moravian plain strongholds

For a large group of the Great Moravian seats (9th century A. C.) in the southern Moravia and south-western Slovakia their location in the flood plain of great rivers is a characteristic feature. The development of this islands strongholds strongly influents natural conditions soil erosion, sources of raw materials, means of transport.
