Career opportunities for alumni of the Health and Social Care programme on the labour market
MAŠKOVÁ, Justýna
The goal of this bachelor's thesis was to map out career opportunities for alumni of the Health and Social Care programme. The key themes of this topic are defined in the theoretical section. The research portion was realized using the method of qualitative research, which was fulfilled using semi-structured interviews with five participants. The results were processed using open and axial coding. The research section poses the following three research questions. What is the current employment of alumni of the Health and Social Care programme? (In the case of further education, what do they currently study?) It was found that the participants work in different areas and positions in the social field and two participants are studying a master's programme in management. How do the alumni characterize their experience on the labour market? It was found that the experience of the participants on the labour market is very diverse. The process of finding employment and its difficulty are very individual and can be associated with different obstacles. What experiences did the alumni of the Health and Social Care programme gain during their studies that are now valuable considering their current employment and what would they change about the programme? Generally, the participants consider their professional practice during their studies to be the most valuable. However, they would recommend changing the contents and the manners of theoretical subjects. This thesis can contribute to students and those interested in becoming students of the Health and Social Care programme. This thesis is also contributing by giving feedback to the University of South Bohemia České Budějovice.
Current activities and problems of social work in Czech prisons
DUŠKOVÁ, Soňa
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to map in detail the current activities and problems of social work in the Czech prison system that occur during the exercise of this profession. At the same time, it aims to indicate what solutions the interviewed social workers propose to the given problems. Based on the study of theoretical background, two research questions were set. "What are the activities and workload of the social worker during the first contact with the convicted person, during the execution of the sentence and before or after the release of the convicted person from imprisonment? What problems do social workers encounter when performing social work in prisons and what solutions do they propose?" The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part includes a description of the Czech prison system in the twenty-first century, a depiction of social work and the specifics of social work in prisons. The practical part is based on qualitative research and the method of questioning, the technique of semi-structured interview. The total of eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers working in the prison system, who were selected as the research population by the method of purposive sampling. The collected data was processed using open coding technique. The interviews were analyzed, and the interpretation of the obtained data revealed what activities social workers perform during the prisoner's stay in prison and what problems they face during their profession. The contribution of this thesis is a deeper insight into the issues of social work in the prison system. At the same time, the thesis presents the current activities of social workers and the problems that social workers are currently facing.
Competence boundaries of social workers in state administration
STRYCHOVÁ, Klára Josefína
The topic of this thesis is to analyse the competence boundaries of social workers in state administration. The theoretical part is focused to establish the definition of state administration and the latter part of the theoretical part is aimed at social work and social workers in said administration. The main goal of the thesis is to to study the competence boundaries of social workers and their methodswhile facing the limits of their competences. The practical part of the thesis was executed by a qualitative research strategy, to be exact by questioning and semi-structured interviews. The informants were chosen based on their work in the state administration in different institutions and with varied experiences. It is clear from the results that each social worker has a different view on their competence boundaries, although all of them respect and folow a common framework stated by the law. If a social worker finds themselves into situations in which they are facing their competence boundaries, they have described strategies which they apply in practice. Those strategies include indentification of areas in which they feel a lack of their experience and expert knowledge, searching for fitting methods on how to find expert help. This approach allows them to solve situations which overstep their competences more effectively, yet ensure quality care and support for clients.
Professional readiness of children in children´s homes from the point of view of social work
FLEKALOVÁ, Simona
This bachelor thesis focuses on the role of the social worker in the professional preparation of children in children's homes, but also on the subjects involved in this process. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out what procedures and activities are carried out by the social worker in preparing children for secondary education, what methods are used or what actors are involved. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part of the thesis I deal with the definition of institutional education in the Czech Republic, the legislative anchoring of this issue, the role of the social worker in the children's home, and finally the child's departure from institutional education. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the research itself. In order to achieve the goal, qualitative research, questionnaire method, semi-structured interview technique was chosen. One research set was chosen, which consisted of 5 social workers from the Czech Republic. The collected data was evaluated using elements of the grounded theory method, with open coding and categorization in the first stage and axial coding in the second stage with finding relationships between the codes and categories. Graphical processing of the categories was done in Atlas.ti. The results of the research show that the social worker in professional readiness in children's homes is mainly responsible for administrative tasks and communication with children and parents of the children placed. Many actors are involved in the process of professional readiness mainly educators, the director of the institution or the primary school. Non-profit organisations that organise weekend or holiday stays for the children and, last but not least, the services of the employment office and school fairs are still widely used.
The problematics of curatorship for children and youth.
KOLÍN, Daniel
My bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of curatorship for children and youth. The goal of my work is to find out what are the main limits of cooperation between the curator for children and youth and collaborating organizations in the Český Krumlov district. The curator for children and youth is a specialized expert in the field of social and legal protection of children, whose task is to prevent the emergence and spread of socially undesirable phenomena among children and youth. Its work consists of providing social counseling and taking measures to alleviate or eliminate problems such as poor school attendance or alcohol and drug use. For the research part of my work, a qualitative type of research was used, which took place through a semi-structured interview, in the form of questioning. In the first part of my research, all curators for children and youth from OSPOD who work in the Český Krumlov district were selected as communication partners. The second part developed from the first part and includes employees from collaborating organizations, which were mentioned by the curators in the first part, as the organizations with which they operate most often. Subsequently, all data were processed using the open coding technique. It emerged from the results of the research part that the given subjects do not perceive any fundamental limits in their cooperation and they value cooperation as high quality one. However even so, they identified some limits to work with for the best quality result. The limits mainly include communication, low number of personal meetings, low capacity of some organizations, driving distance, mobility, different opinions, time availability and openness to cooperation. This bachelor's thesis can serve as a learning resource for curators for children and youth and cooperating organizations to improve the quality of their cooperation and at the same time to eliminate shortcomings in this cooperation.
Homoparental Families and Social Work
KYSLÍKOVÁ, Patricie
Homoparental parents still do not dispose with the same rights as heteroparental families according to the current Czech legislation. Only one of the parents is legally recognized, the other is a social parent, who does not have a legally recognized relationship with the child. The institute of registered partnership has been established in the Czech Republic since 2006. However, neither its name nor its content is similar to marriage. In addition to legal obstacles, homoparental families face societal stereotypes and gender inequality. Nonetheless, according to surveys, the attitude of the Czech population is improving. However, there is a distinction between acceptance and tolerance. Futhermore, there are not many organizations and social work services focused on homoparental families or the LGBTQ+ group. This research work, employing a qualitative research strategy using the method of inquiry carried out using the semi-structured interview technique, analyzed what difficulties homoparental families face and how social work could assist them in this regard. The data obtained from interviews with nine communication partners was analysed using the grounded theory method. The need for social justice as a theory embedded in the obtained data during the process of coding. Its low level is the cause of the current legislative situation, identified as the primary challenge in the research. Additionaly, it points to the prevailing tolerant stance and gender inequality which communication partners face. Whereas the accepting environment is a fact which significantly contributes to the better life of communication partners. To increase social justice, there is a need for the development of Czech social work in a critical and political direction.

TÖRÖKOVÁ, Tereza
The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis describes topics related to institutional care in the Czech Republic, quality of life, individual models and measurements. The conclusion of the theoretical thesis is devoted to the social worker in institutional care, what prerequisites he/she must meet and what is the fulfilment of his/her work. The aim of the practical part was to find out the quality of life of children and adolescents in children's homes with school and educational institutions. In order to fulfill the objective, a quantitative research strategy was selected and implemented on the basis of the standardized questionnaire KIDSCREEN-27. The research was conducted in 5 institutions located in the territory of the South Bohemia Region, the Vysočina Region and the Central Bohemia Region. A total of 35 respondents participated in the research. The data were subsequently analyzed in MS Excel charts. A total of 3 hypotheses were established. The first hypothesis examined whether physical activity has a positive effect on children's quality of life. Based on a comparison of individual results, the hypothesis was not confirmed. Hypothesis 2 looked at whether the children's friends, have an effect on their quality of life. This hypothesis was also not confirmed according to the results. The last hypothesis examined whether parents negatively affect children's quality of life. After comparing the results, it was found that the hypothesis was not confirmed. This bachelor thesis can serve the general public as well as the professional public, who in this way can gain insight into the issue of institutional education and get an overview of how children live in these institutions. The thesis is also a useful insight into this issue for the reason that not much is said about children's homes with schooling and educational institutions and not much research is conducted on it, as just for example on traditional children's homes.
Curator for Children and Youth and the Typology of his Clients
HRBKOVÁ, Vanesa
This bachelor's thesis deals with the social work of a curator for children and youth. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to describe the social work of a curator for children and youth with his clients, with a focus on the risky behavior of children and youth and possible differences in working with them. The curator for children and youth is an expert in the field of Social and Legal Protection of Children. Through its activities, it tries to use social work methods to take measures against the emergence and spread of risky behavior among children and youth. It focuses in particular on children who lead an idle or immoral life. Performs measures aimed at eliminating, mitigating, preventing, deepening or repeating disorders of the child's psychological, physical and social development. A qualitative research strategy was chosen for the research part of the bachelor's thesis, where the sample was selected by purposive selection from among Social and Legal Protection of Children workers in the South Bohemian Region, who work in the position of curator for children and youth. The necessary data were obtained by the method of questioning, the semi-structured interview technique. Subsequently, all necessary data were evaluated using open coding and data categorization was carried out. The results showed that the work of a curator for children and youth is very individual and always depends on the specific child or youth and their motivation to change their risky behavior. It also depends a lot on the family and peers of the child. Curators for children and youth mostly use interviews with the child and his entire family and case conferences in their social work. Although there are no specific scenarios for how to proceed when working with a child with a specific type of risky behavior, the curators take each case as important and always try to find a procedure that will make the best impression on the client.
Addressing the sexuality of people with disabilities from the perspective of social workers
WOLFOVÁ, Natálie Michala
This bachelor's thesis explores the topic of sexuality by persons with disabilities. The main aim of this thesis was to describe the experience that social workers have when dealing with sexuality by persons with disabilities, who live in residential facilities. A partial aim of the thesis was to discover the attitude of social workers to the issues with sexuality by persons with disabilities. The practical part of this bachelor's thesis was realized with qualitative research. The collection of the data was performed with semi-structured interviews. Social workers, who work in residential facilities with persons with disabilities, were selected intentionally for the research. The collected data were processed using coding and subsequently divided into categories and subcategories. It was discovered from the research that persons with disabilities experience their sexuality actively. One of the indicators of experiencing sexuality may be affection for others. Also touches, hugs, or passing kisses. Social workers and organisations, in which they work, have a favourable attitude towards the topic of sexuality of their clients. A free space is provided to the disabled. The organisation enables privacy to its clients when meeting their sexual needs. The clients may openly communicate about their sexuality. There are some methods made, which are based on the theoretical information and experience with expressing clients' sexuality according to which the residential facilities act. Within the promotion and development of themes of sexuality, the knowledge in this bachelor's thesis could help the providers of social services in the process of improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the area of sexuality.
