Evaluation of the landscape potential of the central Elbe region for outdoor geographical education

The bachelor thesis identifies the main geographical themes that can be used to characterize the defined area in the Central Polabí region. The next phase of the thesis deals with the identification of specific exceptional locations where these themes can be best demonstrated. Finally, sites suitable for field geography teaching are selected. The theoretical part is first devoted to the definition of field education and the involvement of field education in the study of geography. Subsequently, the concepts of landscape interpretation and Sense of place are explained and used in the research part. In the next chapter, a characterisation of the defined area of the Central Polabie region in terms of relief, climate, water, vegetation, nature conservation and settlement is made using maps. In the practical part, content analyses of geography textbooks, mapy.cz portal and Vlastivědný zpravodaj Polabí are carried out in order to identify the main geographical themes and specific localities. The obtained information is analysed in order to select the most important topics and locations. Subsequently, the sites are analysed using the criteria of transport accessibility and road access to see if they are suitable for field education. The differences in place perception: conditionings and links in time and space

This thesis deals with the topic of place as one of the most important concepts of human geography. The term place is examined from the perspective of social constructivism. In the first part the thesis focuses on the term place, place perception, space perception and place identity. Those and other important terms are discussed based on scholar literature considering the terms. In the second part of this thesis changes of place identity are analyzed using the example of Zbuzany, a suburban village of Prague with its space dynamically grounds. Old maps and aerial photos are used for observation of the changes within the area. Also, the main phases of space development are defined. The third part of this thesis uncovers the symbolic space using semi-structured interviews conducted with six respondents from three age groups representing different generations. The interviews were analyzed and the differences in sense of place and space among generations were proved.

Courtyards of Prague tenement houses and their revitalization in the view of their residents

The work aims to get a deeper grasp of the issue of tenement houses courtyards and understand their function as a specific type of space within city. This goal is to be reached with emphasis on users of this space in terms of how they use and perceive it. In the first part of the work, the reader can familiarize themselves with difficulties of urban space in the context of urbanism and sociology, history of courtyards of tenement houses in Prague and also their revitalization. The second part of the work consists of a case study of one particular already revitalized courtyard in which a series of non-participant observations and qualitative interviews was performed with 13 of its users. The concluding part summarizes the results of the qualitative research and it is shown, in connection with the first part, that tenement houses courtyards may represent a space supporting life quality in urban areas.
