German historiography in South Bohemia in the late 19th and 20th century

The diploma thesis deals with German historiography in South Bohemia in the late 19th and 20th century. The main subjects of the research are four semi-professional regional historians; native German who studied south-bohemian history. The first one was a teacher and city archivist Reinhold Huyer (1850-1928), the second was a governor archivist Karl Köpl (1851-1932), then a Cistercian priest Valentin Schmidt (1863-1927) and a teacher and politician Franz Engelbert Vollgruber (1847-1917). The first chapter discusses the development of German historiography in the Czech lands. Then, the chapter analyses the definition, progression and the representatives of Czech and German regional history, mainly in South Bohemia. The second chapter portrays private and public life of these authors. The third chapter maps their work, whose primal concern was the history of south-bohemian region, their aims, topics they dealt with, their used primal sources and literature, editorial work and their contribution to the knowledge of the local history. The last chapter shows the bibliography of the work of Huyer, Köpl, Schmidt and Vollgruber. The conclusion sums achieved results of the research. After the conclusion, there is a list of used primal sources, literature and appendixes. The thesis is mainly based on the study of personal collection of German historians, their independent publications and regional newspapers, where their most often contribution concerned the local history.

Reinhold Huyer (1850-1928). The Life and work of a regional historian and a town archivist

This bachelor thesis is the attempt to provide the first more comprehensive survey of life, public activities and work of a school teacher, a town archivist and a regional historian Reinhold Huyer (1850-1928). The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes Huyer´s life, his studies, family, life in České Budějovice and his final years in Dobrá Voda near Nové Hrady. The second chapter deals with Huyer´s public activities in German associations in the town (Deutscher Böhmerwaldbund, Deutsche Liedertafel), his work at school and in the town archives. The third chapter focuses on the Reinhold Huyer´s historical work. The conclusion, which recapitulates the career and activities of this personality, is followed by the list of used sources, literature and presentation of supplements. This bachelor thesis is a result of studies of local press and simultaneously studies of Reinhold Huyer´s personal fund, previously unavailable, so far untreated, which is deposited in a State District Archives in České Budějovice.
František Miroslav Čapek - life and work of amateur historian

This thesis is an experiment of the first more comprehensive capture life and public activity of František Miroslav Čapek, a significant south Bohemia ethnographer, from the first half of the twentieth century. F. M. Čapek enrolled with many historical works in history of our region. He provides place in history of town České Budějovice with his activities during the state change on the 28. October 1918. I wrote this bachelor work based on the study of special literature, mainly personal fund of František Miroslav Čapek, which is deposited in the Literary archive of Memorial National Literature in Prague, South Bohemian Muzeum and in a State District Archives in České Budějovice. This work contains three chapters include an introduction and a book closing. The first chapter is aimed on regional historiography in the first half of the twentieth century. The second chapter describes the life of František Miroslav Čapek from birth to his death, including the public activities. The third and final chapter is aimed to the historical creation of František Miroslav Čapek.
The concept of regional history in history teaching in secondary schools in the town of Pribram

The diploma work is focused on the conception of regional history teaching in the city of Příbram. It brings an up-to-date view on regional history seen through didactis and tries to show contemporary condition in the regional historical research. The whole work is divided into three big parts. The first one is aimed on the term region, on its meaning and understanding. Further it maps significant regional historians and researchers, it briefly draws near their work and makes us familiar with important personalities of Příbram regional research. It also deals with the history of the town Příbram and its closest surroundings. Data obtained from an empirical research, which was taken at seven high schools in Příbram where history as a subject is taught in final exams branches classes, are elaborated in the second part of the work. The found out facts about the state of regional history in history teaching are then compared with the former aims and hypothesis. The third part is focused on certain methodical possibilities of taking advantage of regional history in history teaching at high schools. Two proposals for project teaching methods which might be used in lectures by the teachers are presented.
